• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Still Lurking---RPM At Highway Speeds?

Depends on what gear you're in. 75 mph (indicated) equals about 6500 rpm in fourth, about 5500 in fifth, about 7500 in third.

My underpowered Nomad with two up runs about 3000 RPM at 70-75.

Seems like running at 6000 RPM would take its toll on the engine on a long haul. I have never had that experience, but it just seems like a lot of RPMs for V twin...

I don't know what the redline on your Nomad is, but a cruiser generally peaks around 6K, the redline on the Spyder is over 9K, and the "sweet spot" starts coming in around 4500. The Spyder engine is designed for high RPM and should last at least as long as the average engine.

Apples and oranges. The engine runs where it was designed to run. It is no more harmful or wearing than it is to a sport tourer. BTW, my BMW cruises down the highway at a similar rpm...and it is approaching six digits on the odo. It's all in the design...and what you are used to. One v-twin is not the same as another.

I came from 40 years of low RPM engines. The high RPM of the Rotax is smooth and the sound is not as disturbing as one might think. I love running 5500-6000 RPM. Sounds like a hummingbird! Don't worry about engine life. These Spyders will run all day long at 90 MPH. Ask Docdoru or Setho or some of our other speed demons! Almost forgot...ask Lamonster! If he can't destroy it, no one can!

Jack... They'll continue to improve them; as all manufacturers do! Next year's "torquemonster" six-speed will be replaced by an even better one a few year's down the road too... If you wait 'til the last, best one is built, think of all the fun you've missed!:D

Gee why would they do that? Could it be they actually admit to the Aprilla cruising with a 6 speed and 140 hp does actually get far better MPG? Nah do you think? He he! Bill :agree:
 
You will never have the perfect bike for long ! There will always be something better, faster or shinier come along next year .Just get a bike that meets your present needs and make it your own. I ride my 2009 SE5 fairly hard ,two up most the time and some-times pulling a trailer ,40K and still going strong .
