• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

my spyder is about to turn 7,000
add-ons include fog lights, factory back rest, mirror extensions, spyder webb
i took a couple of foam grips from my old goldwing & mounted them on the stock grips--terrific improvement
coming home last week i went to make a left turn at about 20-25 mph & found it extremely hard to make the turn & then the steering seemed to "twitch" & the wheels jerked to the left: at that speed it was controllable but at a higher speed i've no idea what might happen
anyone else encounter anything like this?
dealer is closed today so i'll have to wait a day to contact them
i look forward to any info on this

You are not the first person this has happened to. Click here to read a thread on another forum from a person who experienced what you describe.

someone on another forum had a similar problem - have the dealer check the power steering unit, his was over amped and was overheating. If I remember right the amp draw should be about 3-4 amps and his was 27!

WOW I can’t believe there are other posts about this problem, sounds like this isn’t an isolated situation. I read an article the other day about a lady that lost control of her spyder on a turn and was killed. Now I’m wondering if we have a very serious problem on our hands. Geeez! :banghead:

That is a sad story, however, I believe there may be more to it than what is article. Hope the best for her family.

wow how trageic thats the first spyder death i'v heard of  my heart go's out to the family R.I.P

Each motorcycle death is a reminder to all of us that what we do is dangerous. We may not learn the facts about the cause, but the usual suspects are excess speed, rider error, other vehicles, weather, time of day, visibility, familiarity with the road, etc. We know nothing about this rider's experience, the weather conditions, etc, but the Spyder does lure new riders into the fold. We all mourn the loss of a fellow riders, regaredless of what they ride.

Read the article and since she was with other riders, there may be some eyewitnesses with motorcycle experience who can shed some light. In many cases, witnesses simply say the motorcycle was going too fast without any understanding of how a motorcycle works. If they give any indication that she was having steering problems and somehow, someone can download the fault codes (if not destroyed in the crash) to prove a DPS problem, then BRP has a big problem. Very few motorcycle accidents are due to mechanical failure (exception being tire failure), but no other bike that I know of has this rather unique power steering feature.

Does anyone have the procedure on how to test the power steering current? Worth taking 5 minutes to look at IMO....until BRP has something official.

Yes. I had the same symptoms on #PE452. Have the dealer check the DPS and contact BRP. The motor on mine was drawing a lot more current than it was suppose to when they tested it. The DPS unit needed to be replaced and now it works better than ever. Here is a link to a thread on the other forum.

thanks to all who replied to my steering question
there are no messages on the spyder display indicating any fault so whatever is wrong is not showing up thru the computer
will follow up with what the dealer finds

Mine didn't display any message or have any falut codes either. It was only after the tech talked to BRP and they did a special test that they determined the DPS was bad.
