I started having starting issues while attending SpyderFest earlier this year. Since then I have improved the situtation after changing out the plugs, wires, fuel filter, and other maintenance items. I also started adding StarTron to the fuel system.
All of these things appear to have greatly lessen my starting issues, however I am still having interminttent issues. Another issue I am having is with surging while idling hot, especially when it's hot outside. Yesterday after riding almost 100 miles in 90 degree temps (with two long breaks), while idling in the high temp the Spyder started to sputter, surge, and then just shut off. This happens more frequently than I would care for. I also had difficulty getting it restarted after this happened. I waited a few minutes and was able to start it again.
So it has been suggested to me that the purge valve could possibly be the culprit. I had the evap canister service done years ago. My Spyder is a 2008 GS with almost 54,000 miles. I also have a HMF exhaust.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Words of encouragement?
