• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Squeal in reverse

Lately when I put the RT SE in reverse it does the normal loud clunk like a hammer hitting an anvil, then when I give it gas to reverse out of the garage, I get a brief squeal. Only time its happened is at initial start-up. I always let the idle settle down to normal before putting it in reverse so I would think the oil had begun to circulate by then.

Anyone else getting this squeal?

Brakes make noise

Brakes on mine do that after setting for a while but only in reverse. If I back into the garage and the next day drive forward, no noise..

Mine too. the dealer assured me that it was nothing more than the brakes dragging a bit. Nothing to worry about.

Same thing happened to mine after I returned from Spyderfest. Thought it had something to do with all the rain and snow I went through on the way home. My Spyder (2011 RT Ltd) lives in Arizona where we get <3" of rain/year plus lives in a garage. She didn't know why hit her with being outside every night, heavy rains in South Dakota and snow and 35 degrees in Cheyenne! Went in for 9000 mile service when I got back and they said it was only dust on the brakes...not to worry. I only hear it when I initially back up out of the garage.

Its not the brakes on mine; I've always had a brake squeal as long as its moving in reverse. This is definitely coming from the tansmission but occurs only for a second or so when gas is applied after its been put in reverse.

SQUEAKS IN REVERSE

From what I have heard here, every Spyder made with the OEM pads, squeaks when in reverse.including mine.....while under power or just pushing it.....Mike....

All I do is use some brake cleaning spray and get the dust off and the noise goes away for a while. Only take a few seconds while checking air pis..

You didn't back up on the cat; did you?? :roflblack:

Probably just the brakes... Mine need a good cleaning right now too! :gaah:

ITS NOT THE BRAKES!

Come on guys, give me a brake (:opps:), I know what squealing brakes are. Mine have been squealing in reverse since day one. The squeal/screech I'm talking about is in the transmission, a metalic noise, and it only does it when gas is applied to reverse, and it only lasts a second or two.

If it becomes consistent enough I'll take it to the dealer.

I've made enuf trips to dealer for TB, computer updates, brake pin, grommets, brake bleeding, belt adjustment, to name a few, that the last trip I ask if I could have permanent parking in thier underground garage. And service manager had the gall to bitch about me doing my own maintenance. Three hours labor charge to bleed brakes that took half that time; one hour charge to mount rear tire that took 20 min. They love those $$$$

Woke up too early this morn and am out of sorts! :sour:

Belt alignment then? It might be rubbing on something in a way that it shouldn't...
This has got to be a real low speed issue. Can you have somebody stand along side of the bike and try to pin down where it's coming from as you back it up?
Have another cup of "Brown Ambition" and you'll be just fine...

No question about it, its the transmission. When I started it this morn, I let it run for maybe a half a minute after it idled down before putting it in reverse and it didn't make the mechanical, metalic, squawk/squeal. Am thinking that it takes a bit for the oil to circulate properly before reversing. Will continue this technique on future startups. With the warm wx now, I've only been waiting just long enuf for the engine idle to drop to normal before backing up. :)
