Seeking Spyder advice ... :dontknow:

Spyder sat for three days. Tried to start it and it just turns over and over but won't start. Checked all fuses in frunk and under seat, all looked good. Charged battery with tender after trying to start it too many times just doesn’t seem to want to fire up. Checked both battery attachments, nice and tight. ¾ full of gas. No error codes or LCD errors displayed.

:dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Here's the interesting thing, finally popped for an iPod and used it the first time with the BRP attachment. Never while running, interesting co-incident?

Any ideas before it gets towed to the dealer?

2010-RTS SE5 just under 14,000 miles.

Thanks

Ouch this hurts...

Just tried the full throttle open and it turned over a few times but stalled. Ouch this hurts ... Could it be water in the gas? It's 3/4 full though? On the tender now charging. Any other ideas to try. Thanks all for responding.

Sounds like you almost got it started but the battery is weak? I doubt you'd have water in the gas if it ran good when you parked it. I'd let it charge overnight and try the wide open throttle again tomorrow. Here's some instructions from the manual:

Good advice and the manual to the rescue, 2011 ?

Yes the tender is showing solid red so battery is in need of a good charge.
Will test it in the morning. Let everyone know the results.
Love this forum. :clap:Sweet Spyder riding dreams everyone ...

That excerpt is from a 2008 manual but both RT and RS use the same procedure. ;)

If the starting problem persists after fully charging the battery and trying the WOT start, I would pull the rear cylinder spark plug and see if it is fouled. If so, clean it up as best you can and re-install.

That is what I had to do when I ran into a problem similar to what you are experiencing. Spent a lot of time working on the battery, fuses, relays and suspected bad gas before checking the plug(s). :banghead:Once I removed the carbon build on the rear cylinder spark plug the RT fired up immediately.

Just a thought.

Ive got the same problem, went to start the spyder last sunday after setting all winter, and would crank over fine but no fire, checked fuses and the normal things, all good. The fuel pump suspect. Cant hear it come on when the key is first turned on. Dealer picked it up yesterday. I will post the outcome later.

2 year old battery no good.

Well it took a full charge over night to get the RTS to start this morning. Jumped on it right away and off to the dealer.
4 hrs later and $170.00 installed, it appears that the issue is resolved. :ohyea:
It took long time to fully charge the new battery while waiting.:gaah:
Looks like you get about 2 years out of the battery here in Central Florida.
Wonder if that's about average for the RT battery ?
They also ran a test on the ignition system just to make sure nothing else was wrong and everything passed.

Thank you everyone for their advice and help. This is a great forum.

On another note, while I was there, priced out a replacement back tire for the RTS. It’s approaching 14 K and they recommend the original OEM due to tire rotation and BRP’s monitoring computer. Apparently, other manufactures tires have been known to mess with this. :dontknow: So they recommend the original RT's OEM’s rear tire. Looks like it will cost about $190.00 out the door to replace.

Maybe it’s time to trade in the 2010 RTS :spyder2: to a 2012 RTS :spyder2: as the cost to maintain the RTS seems to be nibbling away at the wallet on only a 2 yrs old RTS :yikes:
Safe riding everyone.

Got Spyder home yesterday, just made it between downpoars. Problem wasnt fuel put, it was ignition. I havent seen the paper work yet but was told it was the coil.

Sorry to hear it's more than the battery. At least it should be covered under the warranty. Good Luck.
