There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2010 RT 998 won't start - Where to start looking?

Working on my friends 2010 RT. It has been sitting for 3 years. Changed the battery today. And guess what - it won't start. Turns over fine, but it does not even cough or act like it wants to start. Tried starting fluid, but no help. Where to start?

Thanks

Kill switch? Check for spark, and make sure no one's made their home in the air box.

Hopefully it's the kill switch. Wouldn't be the 1st time. Definitely sounds like a no spark issue if starting fluid didn't make a difference. Unlikely that the coils are bad. Could be rodents. We've seen a good deal of rats nests under seats, in air boxes, etc. After 3 years, the fuel system could also be clogged. A new fuel filter and cleaning out the fuel tank may be in order.

Good luck!

Ok so I got it running. Appeared to be the fuel filter. Had good spark, air box/ filter clean except for oil in the air box.

Fuel pressure was 50 psi. Somewhat above the 40 psi spec.

Was running well. Rode it 5 miles to gas station. Put in 2 gal of non eth premium. Now it idles erratic, when you roll the throttle for more power on the hills it starts to stumble.

I'm thinking adding the fuel may have loosened debris in the tank and plugged the new fuel filter. So my next step is to check the filter and pump pressure again.

Any tips?
Thanks

14-year-old vacuum hoses. Replace with silicon hosed of same and equal length.

For a long sitting bike, this is not uncommon. You've probably moved some crud into the fuel injectors. It doesn't take much.

I agree. Vacuum hoses should be changed. You put in a new fuel filter, which is good. Run some Berryman's B12 (1/2 can to full tank of fuel) and see if that helps. You don't say how many miles that Spyder has on it. But if it is 20k or more, I highly recommend changing the spark plugs & wires (which you may have disturbed during your recovery process).

If you had oil in the airbox (very common and the reason we made up a crankcase vent mod kit for the 998 V-Twin). Then you've got oil residue in the throttle body. Spraying it down with Berryman's B12 is also a good idea.

Good luck!
