Talked to my dealer today and he was asking me about windshields and if there were any bigger ones out there. I said yes, there's a guy on our site that sells them and folks seem to say they work pretty good but some have had fitting problems. He tells me he has one of his shields already and it doesn't fit so he was going to send it back. :sour:

So now I'm wondering if anyone has had a windshield from Marcel that fit the first time. I know you mostly hear about problems on message boards but if the guy has sold over 1000 of these you would think they would all fit perfect. :dontknow:

So if you have one, did it fit or not? When I say fit I mean did it fit as good as the stock shield where you didn't have to sand, grind or drill it to get it to fit right, it just bolted right up.

By the way I love Marcel and he seems like a great guy. :doorag:

All went well with the instalation-----Just a few minutes taking off the old and on with the new.
AND to this day I am happy with Marcels F1

Lamont, my dark smoke F1 (which I had ordered specifically for the Homecoming ryde) arrived when Marcel said it would, was wrapped well, it popped right in place, and bolted up snug, holes lining up perfectly.

I had originally thought I'd be doing the "F1 for highway, stock shield for around town" swapping game, but I haven't taken it off yet.

My F1 had holes that were about 1/4 inch off and one side of the bottom was rounded while the other side fit and was pointed like the bike. Still waiting for refund since early June! Customer service was good, but it was not a bolt on.

Hi and Hello Lamonster,
yes in deed, we manufactured more than 1000 Spyder Windshields so far. I am very pleased with the results and the way everything turned out.
I can ensure you, that my customers are satisfied with our Windshields.
I do my best to keep a high standard in customer care no matter how many Windshields we will manufacture in the future. Please let me remind you, that we not only manufacture Custom made Windshields
for Spyder's alone. We also manufacture Windshields for any other Brand, Model and Year and Cars and Aircraft's.
Yes, we had some Windshields "bending" off a bit. This problem was caused by the "Memory" effect on the material we used. If we take a Windshields to early out of the dry period, the Windshield can bend back in to his old position during the transport to the customer.
Like most of our customers already know, all our Windshields are custom made and NOT with a standard machine.
You can believe me, that ALL my customers who had a "fitting" problem received a new Windshield immediately and of course with no charge.
I am proud of our Windshields and like with all new "stuff", you grow in to it.
As far as I know, there is no other manufacturer who did spend so much time and effort in a Windshield design like we did.
Over 150 design tests are done. More than 200 test Windshields manufactured. Countless hours in Wind tunnel. Test drivers is the US, Canada and of course Europe.
This made F1 Spyder Windshields to a well appreciated name around the Spyder world in less than 4 months.
With the huge success of the EVO II and the new EVOLUTION III Windshields, we have reached a higher standard in precision than we had in the beginning of the F1- Spyder series.
I do believe that this is normal and the way it goes.
I and my team had to learn
also and of course we made mistakes.

If your dealer has a problem with one of our Windshields, I am sure, that he will call me back. So far I don't know who you are talking about and what the problem may is on his Windshield. What I do know is, that if there is a problem, I will take care of it like I always do since I manufacture Windshields ( 7 years) with no exception.

If you wish to try one of our Windshields out, give me a call and you can see how they "fit" on your bike.
Thanks and regards to you,
Marcel July

I bought an F1 windshield and it didn't fit right. The holes were off and the bottom was off by a little. I had to grind the bottom and then push on it to get the holes to line up and its still not perfect.
Its in a box in the garage now as I have went a Mel's windshield which fit perfect.

Installed dark smoked F1 within minutes and holes lining OK. Very happy!

When I ordered my windshield I told Marcel I wanted the wind protection of a Gold Wing..He sent me a F-1 which needed grinding and sanding to fit..I called Marcel back about the windshield and he said he would send me the correct windshield when it became available and that I was to use the F-1 till then..that was back in April or early May..I have never recieved another windshield and I just called Marcel again on July 1 and the lady said she would have Marcel call me back when he got out of the heating/curing room..Still NO return call....larryd :dontknow:

How to measure for windshield height...

I did not find anything with a search...

Are there any reference points to measure from so one can establish the correct height of a windshield - specifically an F1 EvoIII?

In final riding position say you want to just be able to see over the top of the shield to a point on the road maybe 50-100 ft away What would one measure from to the sight line in order to speficy the correct height windshield?

Yes - I am anal at times - it took me two tries for the correct Clearview for my now departed Harley.

BTW - looks like new smoked pics of the EvoIII on Marcel's website.

Thanks,

Pete

Spidrr,

So how do you like Mel's windshield? Protection? Buffeting? Would you mind measuring it compared to the stock shield or how far above the dash it is?
Thanks in advance.

So far, the score is 4 "didn't fit" to 3 "did fit".

Add three "kinda fit"s. We have two F1s and an Evo II that the screw holes lined up perfectly but the bottom edge of the windshields needed a little finessing to fit inside the windshield cutout on the Spyder.

F1 Windshield

Mine fit correctly out of the box and it is one of the best windshields I have ever used (and I have been riding for over 40 years). billclemen

Had to sand down the right side (as you look at it)of my EVO II to make the holes line up. Its hard to understand why Marcel can't get the holes to line up.

I ORDERED A F-1 EVO III. I WILL POST HOW IT FITS WHEN I GET IT IN A COUPLE WEEKS. HOPE EVERTHING GOES WELL
:2thumbs:

Hi and Hello to all.
I like to get some general information's about the Windshields I manufactured and this :chat: discussion here.

It is and was NOT a problem for me or for one of my team members to drill a hole in a Windshield and let them line up. It is just a matter of "re-bend" and "memory" effect.
That's it.
So to make a long story short, here is what did go wrong on some of the Windshields.
Some of my customers try to get as fastest they can a F1 Windshield on there bike, and of course we try as fast as possible, to get the Windshields to them.
Some of my customers forgot that they have a long trip coming shortly, or just getting out of time for what reason.
Of course we did help out and did spend some long night here in the shop.

In some of those cases, I took the Windshields earlier
out of the "dry" chamber, rapt them and did send them to Spyder Owners. Because of the fact that they just did not have enough time, the memory effect bended the windshields back in the wrong way and that courses the Windshields to loose a bit of there original shape.
ALL WINDSHIELDS ARE PRE MOUNTED AND DRILLED ON A ORIGINAL SPYDER FAIRING.
So after the Windshields did get to the customer, some of them "fast" shipped ones did get out of line a bit. What was really no problem to fix. Some of my customer did it by them self  and those who did not, have received a new Windshield.:)

Since I have learned my lesson. I do NOT send any Windshields out no matter how fast or urgent my Customers like to get them, before they are ready. PERIOD.

There are a lot of Spyder Owners who are really nervous the get there new EVOLUTION III Windshields as soon as possible, but I ask them to be calm, so that everything goes the way it should be. All over all
I am happy with the result's. Most of my customers understood the situation, appreciated the extra effort my team and I spend to make "there" trip to a success.
Some of them even did jump in, and made a small adjustment on the Windshield at home and they was ready to go.
It took them just a few minutes and I like to thank them for that.
Of course some just "try'd" to get a advantage of our Customer Support and also get a "free be" Windshield, or just wanted to "swap" there "older" F1 Windshield version to the new EVOLUTION III.
Since we keep a straight time-frame between ordering and receiving of our F1 Windshields, we did NOT have any problem at all.
I did apologize to those who had a "fit" problem on there new windshield.
We did solve the problem and they appreciated the effort we took.
I did thank them for that.
One note I still like to mention:
At least, we from F1 stay fair and square with all our customers and do not sell (touring) windshields to Spyder Owners around the world, well knowing that they are not worthy to get even on a bike.

As soon as the first already manufactured 200 EVOLUTION III Windshields are "dry" and there on there way to there new owners next week, you will see what I am talking about.

Thank you for you curiosity, support and understanding.
Best regards to all......
Marcel July
