Spyder Shipping Companys?

SpydrMan

New member
Hi gang. I searched the forums & couldn't find a list of shipping companys that transport Spyders. I have found a few Spyders FS out of state that are real bargains & I would like to find a decent & inexpensive way of getting it back here to the sunshine state. My wife is against me driving it back - so shipping is the only solution. Thanks in advance! (BTW this is my first bike)

Most of the dealers I called and visited out of state had shipping companys that they use all the time for people out of state. If you do not want to drive the spyder home how about you rent a trailer to bring it back.I used a u-haul open trailer for the spyder one time. It was around $39.00 a day.

So glad that you found us! :2thumbs: Tell the Missus that you've got to start somewhere...
(Or if you like taking risks... it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission! :shemademe_smilie::shocked:)

:welcome: My first choice would be to drive it back,2nd choice would be to rent a trailer and check the bike out first before I bought it and then trailer it home , 3rd choice would be to contact shipping companies as well as a flat bed towing company.

If I lived closer you could drive me out, check the bike out and I would drive it home for you .

I've seen some pretty sweet deals advertised down your way also. You may want to consider looking closer to home .

Hire a hulligan

Why don't you hire one of those neer do well hulligans to ride it back for you. They are always looking for a way to get out of the state. Of course, I understand there is an APB out for them in most of the continental U.S.:roflblack::roflblack:

I agree with Fastfraser's option rankings. For a number of reasons, I went with having my Spyder shipped from Texas to Illinois. I posted the job on UShip and had 10 bids on hauling it dealer to door. Make sure they have applicable insurance, read their feedback and use prudence. Check it out as it may or may not be w/in your comfort zone. I've used UShip 3 times, all different haulers and have never had a problem. Good luck.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm trying to find a private seller as I don't want to pay the extra dealer fees, but if I buy new I know what I'm getting. Have seen quite a few deals on 2010's.

Pay extra fees, pay shipping...it all works out the same sometimes. Shop by your "on-the-road" price. Don't forget that you will have to pay taxes , license, and title at the time of registration if you buy privately. Also remember that many eBay listings are from dealers, too.

Check on E-bay there are a number of shippers listed - that's where I found mine. Shipped my RT from NH to OR for $622 - after an $80 AMA member discount (worth a year's membership, just for the discount). Bike was fully insured, delivered to my home town, and delivered to me with 2 gal of gas, compliments of the Shipper.

I had it shipped from a local dealer, who certified that all of the recall and memo'd work was done, had them change the oil, and bought the BEST warranty from them at a HUGE discount. All-in-all a very easy and non stressful event.

How does uship works, exactly? I have basic idea but a company contacted me after I listed my spyder but instead of a bid he said let's talk.
I need get my sorry a$$ spyder back to dealer who worked on my engine...

I first found and then used UShip in 2006. I asked a few folks I knew who used UShip for transporting agricultural equipment about it and went to the website, UShip.com, and read up on how it worked. In summary, you put down the specifics of the item you want shipped, i.e., your Spyder, fill in the time frame, etc., and any special conditions or issues and list it. In all three times within a day or less, you'll have potential shippers bidding on picking up and delivering what you agreed to have them ship. In the case of the Spyder, I wanted it picked up early in a particular week and delivered on or before the Friday of that same week. I required that the shipper have a trailer or flat bed w/ramps as I don't have access to a loading dock. You can put in whatever requirements or restrictions you want. The more you screw things down, the fewer bidders and the higher the price will likely be. I had 10 bidders. Some wanted to talk. I didn't talk to anyone. I wanted them to commit to a price. As I read through them, I discovered that some couldn't meet my pickup and/or delivery dates. Some were incredibly high. And so forth. The bidders who could meet all of my requirements ranged in price from $250 to over $1K. I chose a guy at $300. I talked to him on the phone, recieved confirmation that he was property licensed, bonded and/or adequately insured. The money doesn't change hands until you are satisfied that your shipment is correct, in its original condition and you are totally satisfied. When you agree to accept the bid, there is a percentage paid, sort of like a downpayment. I think it was 10% but not sure.
As I said, this type of transport isn't for everyone. But, I've got neighbors who have used UShip to transport combines, tractors, a Corvette, etc., and I've used it for my 4 wheeler, compact utility tractor and my Spyder. All was well with each shipment, each different shippers. All delivered with a few hours of the agreed time. One was within 15 minutes. All kept me informed via phone where they were and how things were going. I was always comfortable with the whole process. UShip.com - check it out.

I listed my spyder and got couple of bids and one guy wanted talk and another offered me a much lower price than the best bid instead of actually bidding. I assume he wanna do this under the table so he won't have to pay fee that's due to uship when he gets a job from it. I don't know if I will get same protection even if I do this under the table...

Thanks to tofreindscreek, I booked a transport for spyder from Vegas to riverside, about 250 mile run for $290 plus 15 bucks fee. Just about half price of least expensive motorcycle transport. will it turn out to be good decision? We shall see but mover sounded professional with zero negative feedback and enclosed trailer with 8' wide ramp full value insurance plus I don't pay him for the most part, till he delivers the spyder so all sound good.

Good luck with the transport. Wow that is a huge savings! After much thought I'm going to go with a new 2011 model. Found a dealer that only charges $99 dealer fee on top of price, tag, & title. Thanks for the input guys:2thumbs:

Glad to know I could be a help. I trust delivery will be as great as my experiences. Just make sure everything is as it should be before you release the funds.
Each time, I was so excited, anticipating, standing on the porch looking down waiting to see the truck and trailer heading for my house.
Enjoy, be safe and have a blast with your Spyder!

I am happy to report that everything worked out fine.
Listed on Wednesday night, booked on Thursday, picked up on Friday from Vegas and delivered in riverside, ca on Saturday morning, in enclosed trailer all for $305 including listing fee of $15. It would have cost me about the same plus an whole day to do it myself with a rented truck.

For those that need spyder transported, uship.com may save you some money.
