Man, hope it don't look like that one. It's got holes in it !!!:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:
Enough of that B.S. Good to hear that you are getting a new powerplant.

So did they say what the amount extra was that pushed it over the line?

Wonder why yours was worse ?

Glad to see BRP stepping up to the plate.

The one thing he specifically said was that the engine case was gouged worse in the oil pump area. The agreement was pretty much already in place that if mine needed a rebuild similar to Debbie's, they would just replace the engine (per Carlo and the service mgr. at Nordride).

Maybe I missed something, but I was wondering why your engine has gone bad?

Is it something we all need to be looking for?

I'm not sure why mine or Debbie's were torn up like they were. The dealer has done all her oil changes at pretty much the specified intervals. I did most of my oil changes but used, IMO, a better quality oil (AMSoil, Spectro Gold) than the dealer uses. The thing that started them looking into the engine was the output shaft and front pulley wearing badly. I had two output shaft problems within two months and she had her pulley get damaged. What was the strongest selling point for me in getting a Spyder (a proven Rotax engine) has turned into our biggest problem. :dontknow:

For what you two have been through, they should give you a new Spyder!

Debbie tried negotiating a RT for GS swap on my behalf but they just laughed... :D

I don't want to stir the pot but I am curious about warm-ups. How important is it to let the Spyder warm up to one or two bars before starting out on a ryde? Maybe someone could post a survey, since I don't know how.

I just got the call from my dealer yesterday and my engine showed a little worse damage than dltang's had. Instead of trying to rebuild the thing, they are getting a new engine and putting it in. I should be up and running in about two weeks.
Thats awesome ! I am happy for you.

Could be worth further investigation. I know I rarely let my Spyder warm to 2 bars before riding, I'm sure Debbie didn't either.

I always wait for 1-2 bars--- most the time 2. Just makes sense to me not to put strain on the engine until the temp is up and the oil is flowin' .

I have also been under the impression that these engines were tough as nails. Time will tell I guess.

I always wait until a bar shows on the RS. For the RT-S I have to wait for the gauge to start moving. I am used to this with my modern BMW. Not only do they "suggest" it as a normal procedure, but the "R" bikes tend to puke out oil smoke until they warm up, from the oil that drains past the rings of the horizontal cylinders when they sit. Making a smoke screen going down the street is embarrassing! :roflblack:

:agree: Time will definitely tell.

I called the dealership today

I called the dealership today to see if Brian's engine had come in on Friday as expected. I was told no, it did not arrive yet, it has been picked up and is on a Yellow Freight Truck somewhere. That answer just basically sucks. I sent off and email to Carlo to inform him of the answer I got, in the event he is unaware. It just seems like someone somewhere, dealership, or BRP or where ever would be in a bit more of a hurry to make this whole thing right. It is strange, but I am more mad about Brian's spyder taking long than my own. I guess because his has been there all along and if they would have just opened it up, they would have known what they needed way back when. I still am leaning toward this being more of a dealership issue than a BRP issue though, as far as getting the engine in. Our service manager seems reluctant to work with Carlo when we talk to him. He says he has his contacts at BRP and that is who he is working through. I am not going to be happy if I find, Carlo had us set up to get the Engine to him by Friday but he felt the need to work with "his contacts" and low and behold, no engine yet. This is just getting so frustrating. Thanks for letting me vent.

Unbelievable! Sounds like your dealer wants to use his own contacts and I hope Carlo gives HIM a call!

Things seem to take longer lately - I had some things on order (not Spyder related) and I got an email saying that it could take two weeks coming from Canada into the U.S. - not just customs but it has been weather related w/ these storms so I canceled the order. Now, I have something I am expecting tomorrow and we have crummy weather coming - all I can say is it better get here!

Now shouldn't the dealer been able to tell you the freight company that is shipping the engine? Maybe Carlo can look that up. Then you can call the freight company and maybe get an answer as to the location of the truck. Not that you should have to do all the work but I'd be sick of wondering.

Yellow Freight is the name of the freight company, I wasn't just referring to the color of the truck...LOL I am not going to call around, you are right I shouldn't have to do that. But it is disconcerting that the dealership is okay with an answer like that for me. Grrr. Anyway, I sent off the email to Carlo and unfortunately at this point, knowing where the engine is, won't make it arrive any faster. Yes, I am sure that along with customs, this weather has not been helpful but we didn't have any snow this past week, just started again today. I don't know where the hold up is or where the blame belongs, just know it is getting old.

Carlo called and left me a voice mail. The delay in the engine delivery had nothing to do with the dealership so I owe them a public apology. The delay was due to the freight company. It turns out the engine arrived this afternoon after my call to the dealership. The owner himself assured Carlo that it was there and they would be working on Brian's spyder. They are hoping to have Brian's spyder done on Wednesday.

Yep, I heard of Yellow Freight. Nope, you shouldn't have to do the work. Very sad the dealer can't get you answers :(

:2thumbs: I should have read your other post after the last one - glad your dealer got it in! Now let's hope he gets Brian's bike back to him by Wednesday!!!!

Glad to hear the engine made it there. I will also continuing sending good thoughts your way that they get it installed and Brian back on the road Wednesday. What does your weather forecast look like for that day?

Low 30's and a 30% chance of snow. We will have to see, the weather changes rapidly around here.

I certainly hope he will at least be able to get a good test ride in on the new motor. Best of luck to both you in getting through this "home stretch" so to speak.
