• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder population

The question is a good one. The answer will probably never be correctly found. I am very thankful that if someone wants and can afford a Spyder he or she can get one. That means that BRP has the marketing skills to maintain the production levels to meet the market needs so that the Dealers don't gouge the customer base selling price.

Hi akspyderman,

Re: please don't leave out critical parts....

It was not my intention to leave out what you consider critical parts.

I only was trying to say that I feel that an increase of 15% in production/sales is too optomistic.

I've been sort of 'lurking' around Spyders for a number of years ( even though I am new to ownership ). It does seem to me that the major market is for 'older' people; and I definitely fall into that category.

I just do not see that amount of increase in production/sales; especially when more & more options ( AKA Slingshot ) are becoming available choices to the Spyder core market.

Maybe next New Year's Eve we can see who came closest.

It is an opinion, nothing more,

I don't know about nationwide, but Spyder sales in the Southeast have grown at a rate much, much higher than 15%. You can see it in the number of dealers and the percentage of their floor space devoted to Can Am as opposed to Honda or Yamaha. You can see it in the number of late model Spyders on the open road. Based on my observations, 15% growth is a very low estimate.

There will eventually be competitors to the Spyder. Other manufacturers have not failed to notice BRP's success. The Slingshot is not such a vehicle, in my opinion. About all these two vehicles have in common is 3 wheels. I think it would be fun to own either one, but I certainly wouldn't match them up in a buying decision. The Slingshot was about to become available when I bought my Spyder and I was well aware of that. Yet, the Slingshot didn't enter into my decision at all.

Based on what I learned on the factory tour in June.

2014 model production started in September of 2013, actual date I do not know. When I was there on June 9th they said they had 2 more weeks to go. They were at half production for the last 4 weeks of production.

For calculation purposes I assigned no production for Sept. That is because of the unknowns, actual date, start up issues and production speed.
For June I assigned 0 as well because the last 4 weeks at half rate and for a little bit for unscheduled down time during the production period.
I subtracted all the national and Quebec holidays plus a few extra between Christmas and New Years.
That leaves 158 days of production.

I assume a 7.5 hour production day.
They told us they had a normal cycle time of 4.5 minutes.
That is 100 units a day.

So that makes my guess for 2014 at 15,800 made.

Over here in England we have 390 Spyder's

247 RS/RSS

117 RT

11 RT ace1330

15 ST

Total number of Spyder's = 390.

Think you have slightly more than us though;)
