• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder Noises

Has anyone really, I mean really, paid attention to all the strange noises made by their Spyder? It dawned on me this morning while reading about a owner who was concerned about brakes squealing.

My 2011 RTL makes some of the weirdest noises when starting, at cold idle, warm idle when warmed up. Most of them don't have words available in the English vocabulary to describe them. Unless you were to describe the clutch sounds as tinkle, rattle, tinkle, mosh, tinkle, rattle, mush with an occasional clunk bang clunk thrown in for good measure.

The other day I heard clatter of body panels clanking against each other. Never did figure that one out! Just lasted about 35 seconds then it was gone.

When backing out of the garage in the morning or the first ride of the day. The transmission and clutch, SE-5, give a hearty clunk then the rattle, tinkle, rattle starts up. While the brake pad try to center themselves to do work. Then when it shifts from reverse to neutral to first you may hear a slight snick sound. As you roll on the throttle the brake pads seek new positions with a slight clunk. When it stops for the STOP sign. All this time Mr Rotax is chomping at the bit to go come on tweak me up. Lets get this dog an pony show rolling!
Certainly entertaining to say the least IMO? :duh:

that seems to be the norm....

mine makes weird noises starting from cold start, and the brake squeal......:p

also from a cold start I will hear the brake pads moving

havent heard any body panel noises, but the 'clunk' is the 'clunk'.....

Have you given any thought about how some of US sound, when we're climbing out of bed in the morning?
The Missus has mentioned; on occasion, that I make more noises than a trayful of fine china, getting pitched down the cellar stairs! :yikes:

My favorite funky sound is a direct result of me removing my airbox and replacing it with a Kewlmetal intake: that weird burbling "outgassing" sound my engine now likes to make at speed.

At least, I *think* it's my engine making that sound. :joke:

yea.... if my Spyder made the noises I make when I wake up...... but lets not go there.....;)

Spyder noises?? :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack: I guess I don't pay much attention to the stuff that goes on regularly. New or strange? Then I get interested.

You are referring to "Rice Krispy Bones Syndrome." Heck, Bob I sound like a whole box of them in a huge bowl of milk!

Noises Summary

well, it sounds like from all the posts that we can sum it up with one blanket statement. "Spyder's are just noisy overall." Guess that means my hearing is reasonably good for 72 then!:2excited:
