Spyder GS Value

What would you expect a fully-loaded PE '08 GS with 20k miles to sell for today? I haven't seen anything with this kind of mileage for sale so not sure.

HD dealer has trade in value at 9k. I have more than that in paint jobs.

Kelly Blue Book has the 08 Spyder at $13,300 but doesn't factor in extras or mileage.

Not saying I'm selling but I'm always curious.

I'm thinkin our trade in values are gonna be down the toilet now w/ the new ones out. We were the ones that dealt w/ all the bugs, the mis #bering of the Premier Editions, all the money we dumped into them personalizing them and look what they turn out - all our suggestions and they turn out these 2010s with all what alot of people wanted and I'm thinkin they might be bug free? Maybe better wiring, free of fire fears? Evap or purge valve change or better software? Remember NO ENGINE MODS but still, the latest & greatest in tupperware - and this will cause many to run out and want one, this will also cause more people to ride 2 up - they will be more comfy than 2 up on the older models - at least I would if I were on the back on one of these.

If you ask me - ours will be cheap now. Get everyone who wants one of these new ones so bad, and look at what they cost (as much as a "nice" car for some of them), people will take a hit to get these things. They'll trade in what they got for this.

I think the RTs are really for the touring crowd. Those of us who go and get one really must have someone else to ride with...the bike is tuned down and made more comfortable for that reason...I realize that many think it's better than a goldwing trike, but whatever, it's still 30k and I have my Spyder that I really love and have put a lot of money into.

My Spyder is still new enough to my eyes and I love riding it (just wish I had more time to do so)...

I'm keeping my bike as long as I can and I hope the new models do well...the better BRP does, the better we do...

Consider it this way...as is the case with any successful brand, the original line of product usually has a collectible value, given enough time.

If we're still here, riding our Spyders in 25 years, more power to us!

Initially the market is going to be not flooded with, but certainly over saturated with used Spyders. That's going to be great for those people looking to join in as Spyder owners. But not too good for those trading in or selliing on their own.

But over time the Spyder will be just like any other brand of motorcycles with different models. The first owner always takes a hit on depreciation. That's why it's so often recommended to buy used especially for your first bike.

Let's face it, those who are going to buy the RT have a bit of money laying around. It is NOT cheap. Maybe if you can afford one, you can afford also to take the hit trading in your old Spyder. I don't know. These are just ramblings on the day.

I own my Spyder outright. But it was a lot to shell out for a bike. I've had to be careful just how much I spend on aftermarket parts. I'll do a bit each year. But I have to pick and choose. We're retired. This really isn't the time of our lives we should be acquiring toys. Oh well.

I sure do hope the RT does well for BRP. Success will only help all of us. In the end success means our Spyders will retain more of their value. I'm just not going to be one of those people who is first in line for these things. It's really almost TOO MUCH Spyder for me. I like my little sport model just fine.

No point to this post but to put my thoughts out there. I do think BRP has a winner on their hands!!

Just bought a 2010 auto - mid-sized not luxury but satisfies my needs and only paind 17900 foir it. I doubt I will spring 30K for any motorcycle. I like the looks of the 2010 Spyder but agree with Smylin - we were the guinea pigs and the 2010 is the product of our hours of ryding and findng out what needs tweaking on the :spyder2:.

That's okay I like my 08 SM5 and in a lillte while I will have it decked out the way I like it - It may not look like a GoldWing Spyder but it is mine. :clap:

Yes, my dealer told me that, so far, all the requests he had for the RTs were trade-ins from current Spyder owners. I believe anything 5 figures for the 08's and over 11.5 for the 09's would be a miracle. maybe a bit better if you sell private.:dontknow:

I'm pretty sure I will take a decent loss on mine if I trade it, so I plan on selling it privately unless the RTS comes in quicker than planned. Craigslist, cycle trader, here I come...LOL

The sad thing is that the current RT's will be antiquated when the engine options start coming out in a year or so. If one tries to always have the latest then you will be doing a lot of trading and losing a lot of money.nojoke I am satisfied with my 09 at this time and have no plans to change. Maybe when the engines begin to change i'll have another look, and we all know that will happen.:doorag:

:agree: Same here. I will trade if there is a sportier version in a couple of years or earlier if anybody, Japanese or HD, comes our with a leaning trike.

Powersports equipment drops like a rock in value. My dealer has NEW 2008 Spyders for $11,300 right now. I've got over $20K into mine and would be lucky to get $10K on the open market--- less in trade.

I'd say that has more to do with knowing the RT is out there than a lack of interest from Non-Spyder owners.

We know the RT is coming because of forums like this that let us have our finger on the pulse of all things Spyder. But the average person is still not up to speed on the S-model, much less aware that there is an RT to be had.

I am fortunate to have sold my 08 SM 5 two weeks ago on E Bay for $13,155.55. It was fully loaded with most NMN items, Givi bags, F1 windshield and Corbin seat. The local Harley dealer listed it for me so it would run through his store as a trade in so I could use the sales tax trade in credit of another $921. I had just over 20K in my Spyder and got the equivalent of 14K so I took about a 6K hit. Be interested to see what happens on E Bay with units listed after the new madel announcement.

After seeing this i think i will just Corbinize mine. Smuglers trunk, seat, side boxes all for 3.5 - 4 grand sounds a little.better now that i've seen the price of the touring model.

You're always going to lose on leading edge technology. Because that is the product most likely to change quicly, change the most, and change for the better.

That is true of computers, cars, motorcycles and any other product you can think of.

I bought the Spyder to ride, enjoy and keep. If you do it that way you get your money's worth.

If you bought it to pile upgrades on and then trade in after a year or 2 you are going to lose money. Even if you aren't talking leading edge stuff this is true.

I love the look and what BRP has done with the RT. But I'm not into that kind of riding.

I want more power, better handling, increased performance and great fuel mileage. I know I can't have it all so I'll trade off the fuel mileage to get the rest.

The RT is going to offer less of everything that I'm looking for. So I'm going to be very happy with my SM5 for some time.

If I were looking for great comfort, all the bells and whistles and to tour 2-up it would be a no brainer and the RT would be sitting in my garage instead of my SM5.
