There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Spyder is recreational use only for me. I'll take my little truck over any other vehicle. Can shop - spend the night - come back the next day. Fun!!

Although, if necessary, the Spyder could meet my minimum needs as sole transportation, it certainly doesn't meet all of my typical needs or occasional wants. I have an SUV for carrying stuff and a Jaguar XJ8 (no snickers... it's a 2000 and I got it cheap) for comfort and four wheel fun in the twisties. I can't sit on the Spyder for more than a couple of hours at a time... I travel much further than that often.

Spyder - ultimate thrills. Jag - comfortable thrills. Explorer - day to day utility.

I ride the Spyder everyday. It is my commuter vehicle and errand runner provided the results of the errand will fit in the trunk.

I have had very few issues with the spyder and those issues I have had were resolved quickly.

Now, with a 2 year old and my wife not allowing me to strap the carseat on the back of the spyder, I am forced to have a back up vehicle. But it has nothng to do with any reliabilty concerns about the spyder.

Regards.
Arjay

The Spyder is the only vehicle I own, but my wife owns a pickup truck. I live in coastal BC where the weather is mild and I am retired so I don't have to commute. As far as reliability goes, I had a lot of grief when my SE5 when it was new, to the point where I thought I had a lemon, but it was all taken care of on warrantee and it works really well now. Because my wife does not ride and I am a home owner, I think that the truck is the essential vehicle. But if I was single and lived in an apartment or condo, the Spyder would be my choice. I have no use for a sedan.

No way !!! as the only mode of transportation. There are some people on this forum that have been with-out their :spyder2: for weeks and some for months. When was the last time someone went with-out their car for weeks and or months with-out getting a loaner back. Now if the weather wasn't bad and the :spyder2: dealers would give you a loaner or you could rent a :spyder2: at a reasonable amount ,i would say yes go for it as your only mode of transportation.:chat: :popcorn::popcorn:

Nope - get too many nasty weather days here and I have to dress up for work. Plus if it were to break down, I would be w/out a vehicle waiting for parts - wouldn't fly w/ me. At least w/ my car if it breaks down, it's under warranty and I'd get a rental out of the deal.

Absolutely not !!! After reading about all the issues with the Spyder one must think FUN not reliability.....I don't think it will be like my Mazda car.
Ten years old and never seen inside of a garage for repairs..

I know the Spyder certain has its' problems, like most new technologies or machines, etc... But here is my honest question:

*Regardless of weather (pretend snow and black ice were NOT an issue).
*I'm wondering about the reliability of the Spyder, with this thread.

Would you FEEL COMFORTABLE owning a SPYDER as your ONLY vehicle???

To get you to work, get groceries, pay bills, go on a couple over-night riding adventures, short enjoyable city or backroad rides (where dealers are an hour's drive away), etc...

Would you FEEL COMFORTABLE owning a SPYDER as your ONLY vehicle???

If I had the trailer set up Lamonster has, definitely. Only reason I drove the truck for a few days after Thanksgiving was the rear tire wore out quicker than anticipated and I didn't get a new one ordered in time. Since the weather was predicted to be pretty nasty (freezing rain, sleet, snow) My Lady decided she would feel better if I drove the truck.:shemademe_smilie: Weather never got that bad and I would have ridden if that was my only mode of transportation.

However, since I am married with a kid, I need something to carry the family in. My Lady loves to ride so that isn't an issue, but can't carry three.:sour: That said, these days, since I can afford it, I always have a third vehicle. Even with other vehicles, :cus: happens, radiator springs a leak, fan motor goes out, etc. So a spare vehicle comes in handy.

I pretty much parked my truck when I got my Spyder and trailer setup I use it for all my running around.

Where did ya get that set up? And if you don't mind me asking, what did it run ya? How bad a gas mileage do you get towing that?

155 inches of snow last winter. A foot of snow in the driveway now. Sometimes I get home and can't get in the driveway with my 4x4 truck.

Granby N.Y - can never happen !!!

I wish

I wish I could rely on my Spyder as my primary vehicle. But I have had it for less than 6 months with just over 6k miles and it's seen several recalls/updates, thrown into limp mode twice on I95 and the steering locking up on me twice now. Actually its locked up several times. By twice I mean Oct/ Nov when it was taken in for the steering and going into limp mode, and after the "repair". It locked up twice oin the way to work yesterday and on the way home last night it would continously lock up and continue in that direction until I would pull it out of that position.
Fortunately traffic was light and I did my best to keep from getting boxed in w/ traffic in case it locked up and I couldn't budge it. To put the icing on the cake, my dealer/service ctr. closed its doors this week, so it appears I'll have to take it 60 to 70 miles one way for service.
Sorry for digressing, but NO, as much as I want to reccommend it as a primary vehicle, I can't. If you are as good w/ a wrench as Lamont, Scotty or other hard core enthusiasts, go for it. Otherwise, nope.:(

After riding 2 wheels as primary vehicle for over 30 years, I'd have to say yes. If I didn't drop a bike in a foot of snow, I'd have to feel invincible on the Spyder in the same conditions. Now I work in a shop out my back door, so the rides to work that were neccesary at that point are just 20 yard walks. We currently have so many vehicles that they get no more than a thousand miles a year on them, and those are the ones we use often.
Most miles are on trips these days.Probably as many as a whole year of grocery getting. With the front trunk and Corbin bags, I can most likely get all my groceries for the week with the Spyder. But I would consider the Cobra coupe a daily driver as well, and the Deuce highboy...and the Gold Wing (the Marusho..not so much), I guess I don't keep vehicles that I don't think would make a good dependable piece.

IN Western CT and I have not owned an automobile since 2004.
The Spyder is my primary, but not my only. On backup, there is a BMW F800GS.

Prior to the Spyder, the train was my backup when two wheels could not get me to work. Now I push through everything with confidence. Once you have all the proper gear on, it's all good....

Having a Spyder as a primary vehicle is funny to me! It's my third vehicle and it's totally for fun...nothing more...it's great to take around when I can actually find time (and have good weather), but it's nowhere near as comfortable as my Lexus and it certainly doesn't have all the creature features.

The Spyder has the toy factor going for it and as a guy, I love my toys!

I would love to be able to park my truck and just use the Spyder. I know the Spyder can tow a trailer but the one I have, I do believe it would be bit too much for the Spyder.

It's a Tandem trailer with a 21' center console boat on it. My other pickup had a problem towing it and I had to get another truck with "MORE POWER" and the tow package. Sure I could get that for the Spyder but after attaching the trailer to the hitch on the Spyder, steering would most likely become a problem again, with the front wheels off the ground.:roflblack:

Since I use the Spyder more than the boat, I'm putting the boat up for sale. So after I sell it, I will be able to use the Spyder more. Except when it rains here hard or for a week and the roads flood. I got caught on the way home early Friday morning in a bad storm,:yikes: that is now moving up the coast towards NY and New England.
