• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

OK, this is gona sound weird, but i'd like to hear from others if they have done this, or know of anyone that has....
SPIT INTO A NEW HELMET....
i'm knocking of 69, and waaaaaaaay back when, probably around 1955, my best friends dad was a motorcycle rider. my friend and i were in his dad's garage watching him work on his Harley. while there, a friend of his came by and gave him a new helmet. when he took the helmet, he said "thanks" then proceeded to 'spit in it'... not a biggy, but just a little... YUK... :wrong: i asked "why" and the answer has stuck with me ever since, answer: "because nobody will steal it"...
was this an isolated incidence, or has anyone else ever hear of this practice...? i've had a couple dozen helmets over the years, and NEVER once have i spit in any of them....

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

This only works if you do it every time you put your helmet down ............ pretty disgusting imho ...... Mike

Not what I thought I knew

I have seen this done(never closely watched or questioned) & understood it completely different than that. The spit was directed at the inside of visor as anti fog, much like I saw divers do to their mask before diving in:dontknow: Granted the riders I witnessed were on the ruff & questionable backgrounds side & I kept my distance:p :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

At least that makes some sense. My husband used to do that to his mask in his scuba days.

I've seen goggles for divers done like that to limit fogging.

WAY back when: Always took my new helmet and "spun" it across the parking lot! That way I NEVER worried about getting it scratched!!:doorag:

Have to go with.....

The spit to keep from fogging..son did it for motocross goggles back when. there are other ways to keep them from stealing your helmet....:lecturef_smilie::roflblack:

I forgot to ask if there was any relation to the :doorag: du rag :dontknow: :dontknow:
At least hope there is:lecturef_smilie::shocked:

OT WARNING!!

Off topic I know but this somewhat dubious sounding practice reminds me of a pub I used to frequent

many years ago. Some of the regulars there used to wait for a guy to go for a pee and then steal his beer,

replacing his glass with an empty one. I thought I had a cure for this so when I needed to go pee I put a

coaster over the glass and wrote on it " WARNING! I have spat in this glass! " It worked well too for about a week

then one time I returned to the bar and someone had added a further message to my Warning Sign. It read:

"So did I!!" :yikes: After that I didn't go there so often....

Ok, I turned 70 this year, grew up and lived in Suthurn, Ahia (Portmouth, Ohio at the Ohio River... where I might be considered as borderline Southerner by some) ) through my high school years and this post brought the definition below to my mind immediately...

But finding this definition was a real pain in my Yankee (Coumbus, Ohio) *ss!! Guess you could call it a kind of cousin to 'finders keepers' - an old children's adage "finders keepers, losers weepers",which basically asserts that anything found or discovered by someone automatically entitles them to ownership of that property.

Buried in the link below:

(12) -- out, to spit on anything found or taken possession of, to mark ownership

HOLY CRAP...... I THINK YOU'VE GOT SOMETHING THERE.......
I WAS ONLY ABOUT 7 OR 8 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME THAT I WITNESSED THIS, BUT I STILL REMEMBER MY PALS DAD DOING THAT... ALL I REMEMBER WAS THE HELMET WAS WHITE WITH A RED LOGO OF SOME KIND ON IT.... WE NOW WOULD CALL IT A 3/4 OPEN FACE HELMET... I DON'T REMEMBER IF IT HAD A WIND-SCREEN ON IT OR NOT... I NEVER HEAR NOR SEEN THAT HAPPEN EVER AGAIN AFTER THAT 1st TIME... IF IT WERE A REGIONAL PRACTICE, IT IS DEAD NOW BECAUSE I ASKED A FRIEND OF MINE IN MASSACHUSETTS IF IT'S BEING DONE TODAY, AND IT GROSSED HIM OUT... HE SAID "NO"...
