• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spare Electrical Power

Does any one know what is the max electrical load that can be added to an R/T without overloading the magneto/charging system ?

I tried searching the forum and I got tons of hits, but I still was not able to find a straight answer in the dozen of threads.

I am looking into auxilliary driving lights and would need something in the range of 60-70W.

I don't mind a battery connection via a switched relay, but I definetly don't want to drain the battery while riding.

I have the R/T A/C, so already I do not have the fogs, rear suspension compressor, CB, XM... I assume I must have quite a bit of headroom, but how much ?

Any numbers out there ?

Roger, for those of us who are more electrically challenged, is there a "simple" formula to calculate the numbers which you arrived at. Thanks:bowdown:

... leaving a little less than 300W to run your microwave and water fountain.

Tx a lot. I knew someone would have that number.
For some reason, I am not surprised that you are the one who answered. :)

I already got used to the idea that I would never have that water fountain kit installed, but now I am having second thoughts. I may even get 2 an forget about the lights.

Just remember that you have to keep the rpm up to get those numbers. At 4,000 rpm the output is about half the nominal rate. If you do a lot of stop-n-go, or are one of those whose cruise at 4K, you may want to switch off the auxiliary lights.

:agree: It's the revs as much as the magneto...

I had a GoldWing that I just couldn't run in 5th gear when I had it lit up! At 55mph, I was running in either 3rd or 4th to keep the battery from crying like a little schoolgirl... :yikes:
