SNAKES ALIVE

This is my first post although it is my second Spyder. My wife and I were in Virginia Beach for a week and decided to ride out to where the ferry takes u to North Carolina. On the way back from the dock we were going about 35 mph when we made the bend and saw what looked like a piece of black banding wire about 200 yards ahead. As we got to about 100 yards I noticed it was moving and there was no wind at all. About 25 yards away it raised its ugly head. I decided to go around it and as I did it lunged toward us and I saw its head go somewhere between my foot and my wifes. I felt a small thump and may have ran over its head. Never looked back so I am not sure. When I got home to Ohio I looked it up to see if I could fine out what type it was. It was definitely a cottonmouth..... Next time I will run over it!

Give a Snake a Break/Brake

While coming in our development not long ago I pulled my truck across the road to protect the most beautiful copperhead on his way for an evening meal at the lake nearby. I wouldn't want him on my front porch but there was plenty of room for him near the lake. Very few snakes can hurt you so give them space.

It's obvious to me that in your situation, your snake wanted to feast on a 'Spyder" meal. ...Don

P.S. If it was large, fat and very dark, with an unmistakably white mouth when striking, it was a cottonmouth. Believe me, he'd rather have a frog or fish in his mouth.

when i was a kid I would chase black racers.. then i would stop and run from them and they would chase me , then I would stop , they would stop, and look at me.. I would pick them up , wrap them around my neck... and say "Hey MoM... LOOK what I found in the field

A few months back the elderly lady across the street called all excited about something. We thought someone may be trying to get in the house. I grabbed my gun and took off across the street. Turns out there was a rather long fat corn snake in her carport. She was petrified of snakes. I picked up the snake and took it to the field behind her house and let it go. In the process the snake decided to gnaw on my thumb. She told me I was crazy.

glad he missed and had no time to reload. Had it happen to me but as I was walking in the woods. Needless to say I was armed and he made a nice hat band. Good you went on cause if you didn't kill it you made it mad...:lecturef_smilie:

Up here; the area around my Town is supposedly free of poisonous snakes; we just pick up what we can catch, and pitch them into the creek behind the house... No big deal; they eat the mice and moles that are always trying to turn the yard into their own private playground....

But... A couple of years ago; we were ATVing up behind the house, and came across a baby rattlesnake. We actually were foolish enough to try and catch it; figuring that nobody would believe what we had seen...
After playing around with it for a few minutes; we finally wised up, and quit putting ourselves in such a stupid position! :banghead:

The MIssus is as TERRIFIED of snakes, as I am of those eight-legged freaks... :yikes:

That's a game that I've never played...
Were they easier to catch, after the first waterboarding exercise? :dontknow:

Terrified of Arachnids and yet you ride a Spyder?:hun: Is that an oxymoron?

I put up with all of the arachnid crap; because the bike makes it worth the suffering! :thumbup:

Guess I'm wired differently. Not scared of snakes or spiders. Worked with big cats. Done a lot of stuff "dangerous" stuff.

They're about a foot long, about as big around as my index finger, brown and with an orange ring just behind the head. Totally harmless, easy to catch.
