• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Gotta say..!!

this has been kicked about for a while here recently...and I will say it again...they need to classify three wheeled cars and three wheeled motorcycles differently. Texas has the right idea and they should include the T-rex, Elio (if ever produced)as well..jmo..

Sat in One

I got to sit in a red one in my dealer's showroom a couple days ago. It was difficult for my arthritic legs to get into and out of. It reminded me of getting in and out of a Corvette as it sits so low to the ground and also has the deep tunnel for your legs to fit into. Obviously this vehicle isn't for me at my age. I'm still waiting for the Spyder F3 to show-up as I think it'll be a better fit for me.

I drove extensively in a friend's Miata 4-5 years ago. I loved banging that 5-speed gearbox around, but I could hardly get in and out of it.
I bet the Slingshot would give me claustrophobia, so I don't even want a test-sit. :doorag:

You keep saying this statement but, can you give a reason why they should classify them differently ????????

A motorcycle is a two or three wheels vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine. Why make it more difficult than that ????????

Randy,
Not all States classify vehicles in the same manner...
Here in New York: if it's got 4 wheels; you're in a car.
Less than that; you're on a motorcycle.
Other States seem to want to "Muddy-up" the waters a bit...
(Let's NOT give our elected Officials any ideas about what they could do to us, when it comes to these types of vehicles... :yikes:)

True it is side by side seating, but Texas allows the morgan and the T-Rex, with side by side seating, to be called motorcycles in texas. So what is different about the Slingshot. :banghead:

I think if I am seized by the belief that I have that much money to spend, I will buy a Miata.
Maybe your butt is not as close to the road but if it rains you have a top and if it gets really hot you have AC.

I'm leaning more toward the Subaru BRZ, if I make another purchase.

You can't use the number of wheels alone to classify a car vs. Motorcycle. It just doesn't work. If we used that logic then all of these would be "cars". Have fun explaining that one, especially to that cranky goldwing old timer!

Side by side seating vs. Inline seating, straddling a seat/saddle vs. Sitting in a seat, handlebars vs. Steering wheel.
I think these 3 specific differences alone make much more sense.

Yep

In California the Spyder is not a motorcycle, therefor no Motorcycle Liscence required.

They all would be cars because of the 4th wheel..... That's why none of these are legal in the US to be manufactured and sold.

:agree: And... you didn't actually discuss my point; New York ONLY uses the number of wheels to define what the vehicle is...

...Which I'm perfectly happy with!

Question: When Elio finally admits that they're not equipped to even build a wheelbarrow, (While being hauled away in handcuffs...); will it be reported as a failed automotive company... or motorcycle company? :dontknow:

How's that?

I'm just trying to get my post count up. Don't mind me.

The Tesseract Tesseract.jpgnever made it beyond a styling exercise and/or a test mule for some ATV suspension designs. It's been around for about 7 or 8 years now...
NEVER offered for sale; anywhere!

Hi Gene,

Re: Gotta say..!!

I've said it before & I am saying it again:

Germany the Nazi's first came for the Communists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn't speak up because I was aProtestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak for me.

I've spent way more time than I would prefer fighting anti-skydiving proposed legislation here in Oregon.

There is room for all of us here on this good old Earth of ours.

IMO anyone who thinks that they could not legislate the Spyder off of the roads has their head in the proverbial sand.

BRP has said that they have produced ~ 52,000 Spyders; that is peanuts as far as numbers go.

Politicians listen to voters.
