There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Should I get the recall done?

I'm still trying to figure out what the evap canister vent hose is for then. It must not be important because those who did not get the 2nd update done also did not get this new hose installed. According to my Dealer and BRP I needed both updates and was done at the same time by checking my vin #. But did not need the new vent hose which they checked by vin#. Still haven't gotten an answer from Dealer or BRP about why I didn't need new vent hose:dontknow:. Any body have any clue?
When they did flash number 1, they altered the purge valve timing to open at a lower RPM. In the engines that accept this without running badly, perhaps BRP believes that a vent hose from the canister is not necessary, because the fumes are being dealt with. Be that as it may, I still would rather have the hose, or perhaps a canisterectomy.

I had the 1st update (worked brilliantly). :2thumbs: Have not gotten the 2nd update and I will not be doing update #2 because it runs flawlessly now and I am very satisfied with my Spyder..

Sorry to all the folks having issues and I hope BRP gets all the bugs worked out for those having problems so they can enjoy their Spyders as much as I do mine..

Up to now, my Spyder was running beautifully. Ridding was bliss. Now out of the clear blue sky my Spyder has decided to intermittently run like crap. I have had the first update, but not the second. I have hesitation that could be better described as faltering. Sometimes from a standing stop I have to raise the rpm's to a high level and slip the clutch just to get started. Sometimes the faltering occurs with what seems like misfiring. The next morning everything will be completely normal (bliss returns). My experience seems similar to what others have overcome with the second update. I am reluctant to do the second update because I don't want to get the steering disease. I have not had any problems with my steering yet.

I am inclined to suffer with my driveability problems until BRP comes up with a cure for the steering disease. The driveability problems do not seem to be getting progressively worse. However, they are completely unpredictable. I cannot ask the Spyder tech to fix a problem he cannot see. How would he know when the problem was fixed? The problems do not occur when I am anywhere near the dealership. By the time I would get there, the problem would be gone.

Does your intermittant rough running seem to be Spyder temp related? After the first update, mine ran great up until we had a few days where it reached 90 outside (Michigan had a very pleasant and mild summer) and my Splyder hit 5 bars on the temp gauge. Then it was sputtering and hesitating at low RPMs and ran poor at higher RPMs until the temp gauge went back down to 4 or 3 bars. Then it ran good until the gauge ran up to 5 bars again. My service guy said something about it probably running too rich for the warmer engine and he'll hopefully find and fix the problem along with repairing the output shaft and front pulley.

It does not seem to be related to ambient temperature. The problems occur at four bars. I did have some temperature related performance differences prior to the first update, but everything was just great until last week (our temps are actually moderating some). These driveability issues just fell out of the sky. They don't seem to be related to anything else.

I only posted the ambient temps as that related to my Spyder running a little warmer. The key for me was that the Spyder ran poorly when it was at 5 bars on the temp gauge and ran better or great when it was at 4 bars or lower.

Brian: I think you are on to something. I try to avoid riding in Naples because of the crazy drivers, but today I had to go to my dealer and could not avoid the in-town traffic. Our ambient temperatures are moderating (mid 80's instead of mid 90's) but due to the stop-and-go traffic I hit 5 bars several times. I was getting a mild version of my intermittent problem. I didn't have the misfiring, but I had the stumbling/hesitation/faltering at low rpm from a standing stop. I realized that every time the problem occurred I was in-town.

This afternoon I rode in the country with my friends, the cows, a very happy man. I have received the gift of a critical insight into my driveability problem. This insight may lead to a solution. I thank you for that.

I think you should take a leave of absence from your job so that you can go to Valcourt to work with the BRP engineers. They need your help.

Once again, you have demonstrated the power of this forum. It is much appreciated.

+1...don't get the second unless you have problems with the first. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I think this is a redundant post, because I mentioned this earlier today... However, I know there are plenty riders that didn't want to mess with trying one and making the trip back for the second. I live far enough away from the dealer I trust to not wait until I've experience ill effects, then find time in my schedule to get back, hope the KC weather cooperates, just to drive a poor running spyder all the way back down there. I have scheduled to have both done tomorrow afternoon. I have heard plenty of cases in which owners needed the second update and hadn't had a chance to get. I've yet to hear the opposite, however. No one, to my knowledge, has said: "Dang, I wish I had only gotten the recall instead of doing both updates for the sake of convenience."nojoke

If I were going to do it today I'd do it your way...get both updates...why not?

When I got mine done there was only 1 update. Since I have had zero problems with update #1 (actually runs better now than before) and it is pretty much a full day to get an update done because of the distance to my dealer, I don't see any reason, at this point, to make a special trip.

Are you getting gasoline at the same place? Maybe you got a nasty batch of gas.

I’m trying to decided if I should get the recall done #1 or #2. I have had the 09 spyder for 6 months and 3000 miles everything runs great. i ride it every weekend. I’ve never had a problem with the steering, backfiring, gas smell etc. I’m a little nervous about getting the updates after reading some of the posts here. I’m a true believer in “if it’s not broke don’t fix it”. but I would hate to have a steering issue arise, and get blamed for not doing the recall/update. Apparently this has happen to someone else. What’s everyone option on this issue. Do most of you regret getting the recall/updates?? Thanks in advance for the feed back.

I had the same issues as you but the dealer told me at the oil change they would do it automatically or a would have to sign a form for brp
not being responsable if steering problem happen. I did both with the
oil change because they can't do the #2 without the #1 done . Did
about 600 miles with the recalls everything is fine, but i had never had
problems before.

2nd recall

I just had the 2nd recall done one week ago and everything seems to be good. I have a 2008 yellow with 5845 miles on it, I'm happy with it and does seems to run better. I still have to check my MPG, not looking foward to put it away for the winter. I will ride until the first snow fall. In PA they use a lot of salt and chemicals in our area. I would love to give it a chance in the snow, but can't risk the damage that might be caused.

recall/update complete.

Had recall/updates and vent hose installed. Everything runs great even a little smoother then before. After talking with spyder reps at the lonestar rally they talked me into it. So far so good…:2thumbs:

That is good news . . . . BUT, . . .

If I read your post right, you took the advice of some strangers over all your buddies here???? We will all remember that. :D
