• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Shifting Hesitation

Well, because this is the most informative Spyder resource on the planet, I figured I would ask here before going to the dealer.

Randomly, usually during a hard pullout and usually on the 1-2 or 2-3 shift, my ride will hesitate 1-2 seconds. As this is usually pulling out of a short ramp to an interstate, this can be very disconcerting!

At first, I thought the engine was cutting out and then coming back, but I now believe it is a hesitation during the shift process, where the engine cuts for a moment to lower the rpm's when the clutch disengages and the higher gear is chosen. This is on an SE5.

Any thoughts, comments or commiserations? Thanks, in advance!

The semi auto is very sensitive to the oil level, i would check that first.:dontknow:

Yes oil level super important.
Have finally found that my SE5 has what I call a sweet spot for shifting...4 - 4200 rpm...for 2 & 3rd....and the other thing I find to eliminate that "pregnant pause" is a quick lite touch on the paddle....Now even at 20k miles I sometimes get that pause...not very often...and then I say what the heck and then dawns on me I either shifted a little early or lingered on the paddle...BUT always feel free to ask your dealer tech--especially if your warranty is still good.
Happy shifting...

JMHO When I move out rather smartly, I feather the throttle slightly when pushing the paddle. I get smooth shifts this way and I feel I am not putting as much stress on the clutch.

Call Carlo

I had the same problem for 7000 miles and the dealer fix it with the help of Carlo and the mechanic from BRP . Now is working good. The dealer is RTR performance in Kamloops BC Canada , Ronsam RT SE5. With this information you should be ok,They should be able to help your dealer to fix the problem.

Me 2

You have described exactly what occurs to my RT Limited occasionally. I have approx. 3100 miles and when I go in for my upcoming oil change I will have the dealer check it out and report back. Other than that "hiccup" as I call it my Syder runs just great. Also I learned short shifting on this website and have been getting 36+ mpg. Any and all questions and comments can be found on this website which is amazing. GO SPYDERS :D

Pregnant Pause

I was getting the PP quite often going to 3rd with my SE until I realized I was shifting too early, too close to 3K. Disconcerting when it happens.

Glad to see that you're getting some use oout of the new Boa Ski... :roflblack:
Mine has done what VERY rarely for quite a while..oil change next month and I'll see if it goes away!

Do you know what the fix was?

Mine used to do the same thing. I think I was shifting too early. The SE5 will not allow a shift into a higher gear if the RPM's are too low. I theorized I was shifting at the at the borderline RPM's where the Spyder's "brain" would either allow or disallow the shift. Since I starting shifting at higher RPM's (~5k), I can't recall having the hesitation.

Shifting hesitation

:agree: with both comments. 2010RT-S SE5 3700 miles, I sometimes get the "dreaded pause " and from watching how I shift I know that the pause was caused by how I shifted.
