There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 1330cc Anyone else had this 'gear change fail' or 'hesitation/vapour lock' problem? Ideas?

I have a 2021 Spyder RTL with 28,700 miles. I live in Denver, and I went to Sturgis last weekend. The Spyder ran perfectly the whole weekend. Coming back to Denver it was really hot through Wyoming (around 100 degrees). We got close to Denver and hit the abortion known as I-25 with 5:00 traffic. I decided to take a different route and got off I-25. On the ramp the bike was in third and when I downshifted to second the bike hesitated for a few seconds but went into gear. A few miles down the road it did it again. The third time I was at a light and went to go, it jerked and then just died. I was able to get to the side of the road and shut everything down. I waited a few minutes, and it started right up but wouldn't shift to first. I finally got into gear and was able to drive home just fine. I took the bike out today and everything was normal.

My questions are.
1. Anyone experience this problem?
2. If so, did you discover the problem? I though it may have been vapour lock because of the heat and stop and go
traffic. The temp gauge never changed from its normal position.
3. Fuel pump problem was suggested.

I would appreciate any wisdom you can offer.

Check for codes, fuel injection doesn’t vapor lock, however gear position sensor may have lil something going on. Glade made it home:thumbup:

:agree: ... Also, numerous Spyders have had "Paddle shifter issues" ... Good luck ... Mike

Make sure your battery cables are tight. Check the voltage also. Today's engines and systems are heavily dependent on good voltages and good electrical grounding.

I see that you have 28K miles on your Spyder. Just wondering if you had any service work done.

Any Codes?
Things I would consider, fuel quality issues.
Fuel Tank and the fuel pump. Definitely check out the fuel filter. Check out the air filter.
Just wanted to know if you have had any other temperature issues in the past.

Definitely check out the possibly of electrical issues.
A Fuel Injection system like what is on your Spyder should not vapor lock.

These are my thoughts on the problem.
Check everything out and let us know what you find.
Might check with your local Spyder Dealer Service Technician.

Good Luck on your Mission. ....

I have had all my service work done at my dealer at the prescribed time schedule. I was surprised that no codes appeared at all. After listening to others, it looks like it might be a fuel filter or shifter sensor. I think I am going to go ahead and have them run the system test and go from there.

The funny thing is that it ran fine yesterday but I don't want to be left out on the road somewhere.

My vote is for the battery connections and then the shifter position sensor. Third possibility is the handle bar shifter esp since it is exposed to the suns heat which is when the issue happened.

Be a great idea to put star washers on all the battery connectiosn and install a battery tender cable too.
