• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Good luck!

Yes, I read that from your earlier post. The thing that bothers me is the instruction to delete earlier parings.

I decided to start a new thread since the other one was getting off topic.

I called SENA about my particular problem and got a response.

The SPH10 units that we have can continue to be paired to each other for bike to bike communication but since we leave them on full time there will be a problem. We have found we can ride for a full day without losing battery power and can enjoy instant communication by leaving the units connected full time.

Once we install the SM10 transmitter in order to pipe music into our helmet headsets (we need two of these because she is a classical music listener, while I am rock and roll), we will need to pair the SM10's to the head sets. Once we do this we will lose the instant bike-to-bike communication we have enjoyed.

I was not aware of this and had I been, I probably would not have gone to the trouble of buying the SM10's and getting the cables to hook them up.

My wife has one arm that is paralyzed and cannot reach up to the helmet control to push the on/off switch so if she is going to have music she will not have the intercom connection. Only the SM20 units have the capability of muting the music for instant voice transmission. Unfortunately the SM20 will not fit the type of helmets we use.

So once again it pays to ask ALL the questions up front.

Just do a reset on the device which will delete all previous parings.

Bob

I understand that Bob.

The problem is that once the dongle is transmitting we lose the 'open' communication with the SENA headsets for bike-to-bike communication. The two pairings are not compatible unless the intercom button on the SENA unit is tapped. That defeats the dongle but in order to re-activate it the button has to be tapped a second time to pair the headsets back to the dongle so you can tie back to the internal audio in the Spyder.

Since my wife doesn't have the use of her left arm she cannot get to that button. That is why we use the 'open' talk anytime feature on the SENA headsets. It uses more battery power to run them that way but we find we can get five hours minimum before they need charging.

Apparently the later model SH20 headsets from SENA allow the synchronous pairing to use the 'open' bluetooth connection for bike-to-bike at the same time the SM10 dongleis in use. The intercom overrides the dongle signal without having to manually reconnect each time. Unfortunately the SH20 headsets only come for full face helmets and we only use half helmets.

But thanks for all your help I am going to install the stuff anyway so I can have music from my IPod in my helmet when I ride alone.

Do you mean the Sena 20s comm system? We use a pair and they do work great for music, intercom, phone and with the Sena SR10 for our Amateur Radio. I would think the SM10 would work about the same as the way our SR10 works. She plays her music from her phone and I play my music from my phone.

I'm not sure why the 20s wouldn't work on a half helmet as I stuck the included "Glued Surface Mounting Adapter" to the side of my bicycle helmet (definitely a half helmet!) and I move my 20s from my modular helmet to the bicycle helmet on the somewhat rare occasions I ride my bicycle in a running event where we use Amateur Radio for communications. I'm at work so I don't have any pictures of my bicycle helmet.

Could you stick the "Glued Surface Mounting Adapter" onto the side of your half helmet? As for the speakers, with a half helmet I would use noise suppression ear buds.

Also, I don't know that the 20s has to be mounted to the left-hand side of the helmet. The kit comes with a stick-on boom microphone plus a button microphone with cord that can be stuck to something with Velcro or a dab of glue. For her just mount the 20s on the right side, stick the stick-on boom microphone on the side of the helmet, use ear buds and off she goes!

I can look at my setup tonight when I get home if you need more info.

Good ryding...

Thanks Charles.

I may slip down to the dealer and take another look at the SP 20 Headsets to see if we can find a way to make them fit.

Take lots of money!

The 20s units come with a lot of included accessories, see:
http://www.sena.com/product/intercoms/20s/#tab-in-the-box

The built-in boom microphone can easily be removed and either of the other two supplied microphones plugged in.

The headphones can also be easily removed and there is a standard jack for ear buds or other speakers.
