Secretariat woulda eaten American Pharoah's lunch!

COMPARISION

I think Secretariat was one of the greatest race horses that ever lived. But to give American Pharaoh His do, He did have the 2 nd fastest time ever in the Belmont ( behind Secretariat's ). But if we are pondering here's something , I personally think the greatest Race horse that ever lived was Man O' War. Because His owner didn't like to race in Kentucky , He never registered Him in the Kentucky Derby otherwise He would also have been a triple crown winner .....Man O' War did win the other two in record time .........Mike

You're probably right about Man O'War, Mike. Secretariat was the first triple-crown horse I'd seen, though.

I thought the side-by-side video was interesting.

Secretariat was actually a bit of a freak... nojoke (I mean that in a GOOD way...)
After his death; they discovered that his heart was about double the size of a normal horse...
He had the right pump; for the right job!

Although after looking at the intervals; American Pharaoh looks to have been pretty close from the mile, to the finish!
(I didn't do all of the Math just yet...)

(My Dad used to own a couple of Trotters & Pacers...)

Back With The Math...

Okay... There's no doubt that Secretariat ran his race in 2.65 seconds less time...
I'll give his advantages, at each of the marks...
At the Quarter: .46
At the Half: 2.63
Three-Quarter: 3.61
Mile: 3.79
1&1/4 mile: 3.33
at the finish: 2.65
It's clear to see that after the Mile; American Pharaoh WAS faster...
I don't know how to adequately explain the "splits" (the times it took to run between the marks...), but Pharaoh was "about a half-second faster from the mile, to the mile and a quarter, and al most seven-tenths faster from the mile and a quarter, to the finish...

But Secretariat's pace at the beginning of the race...:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

That could be because Secretariat had no other horses breathing down his neck the second half of the race

It's tough to say; each race is different, and each horse responds differently... :dontknow:
Remember: Secretariat was pushed HARD to the half-mile...
(That's why I always used to just bet the favorite, to show... :D)

There was a great grandson of Secretariat's out in Council Grove Kansas a few years back. He raced in 5 races then sold for $1,700.00. He was called a no ride by the jockeys. After the race ended he would buck the jockey off. Nobody wanted to ride him in a race. He was the fastest horse I was ever on. He got struck by lightning out in the pasture.

To many variables to really say unless there side by side on same track conditions.

Secretaires stride was 22 -22.5 ft.
American Pharoah was 24ft.

Would have ben nice to see them run together

Was that at the trainer on Hwy 56 west of Council Grove? I used to date a guy who worked there. But I thought that place only trained cutters.
