• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

SE5 gear change thump!

Brakes are cheap!

I guess what I am saying is that with greater load to pull, keeping higher rpm's can reduce wear on the transmission. In other words, using more braking power of the engine (by downshifting) would be better all around.

Obviously, I'm not an engine guy, but logically this seems right? or is it wrong? :dontknow:[/quote]

Brake pad replacement is MUCH cheaper than clutch or transmission work. Use your brakes to reduce the loads on the clutch and drive line and if you wish then down shift to match your speed. Only in regenerative electrobrakes is it best to let the motors slow you down. I am NOT saying that using a lower gear to increase engine braking on an extreme downgrade should not be used. Just don't downshift and put the stress on the engine, drive line and clutch.

Ooooh...I guess its only a matter of time before we see hybrid Spyder-like rigs with regenerative braking electric motor power source

Do you mean KERS? Kinetic Energy Recovery System? I have a buddy who builds the batteries for this system at Mercedes Benz High Performance Engines here in the UK (Formula 1 race engines for the McLaren F1 team to you and me)! I reckon they'll be installed in Spyders in about 7-8 years.
