SE 5 Lagging Shifting when hot

Five Bikes

New member
Hi, all.

I've seen the slight opposite of this problem on the Forums, when RT's lag/hang up when cold. Mine (RT-S, SE 5) does just the opposite - long lag when hot (temp gauge above middle, but not at top of gauge), when shifting moderately aggressively, 5-6,000 RPM - usually 2-3 hangup/lag, and 3 into 4. Never problem on downshift, either me or the bike itslef.

Low oil issue, or BRP known issue/recall?

Thanks much in advance,

Five Bikes

Curious..!!

oil level..oil brand and weight, length between oil and filter change.?? These can affect the clutch and shifting. Make sure you have the right spec's on the oil your using. Make sure you change oil and both filters at the indicated intervals and keep your oil level full or below..this is where I would start looking...

Your issue sounds like something to do with the oil. The temp gauge should be running at 4 or 5 bars (center line or below). 3/4 seems a bit high for normal operation.

RE OIL: Do you have the right type and weight? I know that is important. Proper fill is also important. To little, and tranny issues pop up.

Sorry, I am not the oil expert on the forum, so am going to stay out of specs, etc.

All:

Thanks for the info - it will be the first thing I check before next time riding. Two other questions:

Do the engine lube and transmission 'feed' from the same sump (gears bathed in same oil?)?
Does the recommended oil 'thin' at higher temperatures?

Also, when the bike cools down, problem goes away............or, I call make it disappear by rolling back the throttle just a smidge before I shift, taking a bit of load off the engine.

Thanks again - I'll report back,

Checking your oil level; as per the explicit instructions contained in the owner's manual, is a real good start to this exercise.
These bikes are fussy about oiil levels, and the first thing to show up when they're low: "Wonky" shifting!
We're waiting to hear what you find; Good luck! :2thumbs:
