There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Sarge707 question on HRM (heart rate monitor)

I think you've mentioned a few times about your cardio training on spyderlovers; if I have that wrong, I apologize.

After all these years of strength training I started putting in more cardio for the past 2 years. I know there are those that say getting on a machine for cardio is boring, and blah, blah, blah; when I hear that I tune them out.

Okay, now my question(s). Do you use an HRM? I ask because I'm reading a Stuart McRobert book and HRM's in general we're mentioned in the section on cardio. So, I did a google search and found the Polar Loop with an H7 interested me. Since I have an iPad mini I thought buying the Loop would be redundant, except using the iPad would be a little cumbersome; then, I'd be worried about the iPad falling off the machine I'm on or if working with weights someone stepping on it. If you had an iPad would you use it for tracking or would you spend the money for the Loop?

Thanks

i'm not sarge but I use a polar hrm and I love just look down at the watch that comes with it. However now a lot of the newer machines(precor, treadmill) come with the grips that you can grip and they will show you your heartrate whenever you want. so I don't wear mine all the time now because of that. Just my 2 cents take it for what its worth.

I know what you're saying about the grips, which work fine on the upright bike, for example. The problem is on a treadmill; when you go past a certain mph, gripping sort of throws off your stride, if it's at a very fast walking pace, because you don't have the reciprocating movement of your arms.

When I go to work out this afternoon, I'm going to take a look to see where I might place my iPad mini when on the treadmill. When on the Concept II Rower, I can place it on the floor, if I'm careful of location.

By the way, when you use the grips on whatever you're on, do you feel the reading was close to what the HRM watch showed.

I actually wore mine and checke dit against that and they were almost spot on. so if I was just going to be on a precor or a bike ijust stopped wearing my hrm. i don't do the treadmill anymore bad knees(2 surgeries and arthuritis sp). It's hell to get old. I can still get a good cardio workout on the precor though.

Actually my body is my heart rate monitor? I don,t have a Smart phone only Time I take a plain cell phone is if I,m on the Spyders or Jet Ski.
I have been doing spinning classes 4 times a week for an hour and When I,m done my shirt and under wear are soaked through and during the class my heart beats so fast I have to breath a few times before I can take a sip of water . I find the benefits of spinning are- I do it in a class with All "Younger Woman" and a few men-You do it to Music - Your workout depends "How Much" you turn up the resistance adjustment. I ran 3 miles a day for 25 years and I swear an hour spinning class is Just as Hard. At 65 I,m the oldest in the classes?:yikes:

The other days I do the Arc Trainer for the upper body on 35-60 resistance.

Sorry I couldn,t help but I think I got a Built in heart monitor.

I have used for the past few years. I have a Polar model cant remember but I wear the band across the chest. Most machines pick up the signal and display the heart rate the the treadmill display. I use the watch as well and both have read exactlly the same as the day I got the watch/chest band. I quit wearing my watch on the treadmill because i tend to vere off to the side and be "that guy" if Im not just looking forward.
