• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ryker 900 - sounds like it wants to start but won't turn over! Charged the battery, still nothing. Helllpppp!

I rode around for one day, then let the bike sit for maybe 3 days, and now it won't start. I do get a reading 'Transmission Maintenance Required' but the dealership said that won't prevent the bike from starting. It cranks, and wants to start by the sounds of it; any help? I'm not getting any codes either.

Do you hear the fuel pump run when you hit the key or starter? They have been known for bad fuel pumps, and I believe there was a recall on some. That would be where I would start, maybe see if a sniff of brake clean or starting fluid will make it pop, just a little!! If it fires, then you'll know. Good luck!! You say it didn't roll over until you charged it, so load test the battery!!! You may have two things hanging you up!!

Thank you. The battery is good, it kicks, but it's not turning over. Where should I spray brake cleaner? I did that on the filters, but it didn't start it up?

RED Flag! If battery the doesn't turn it over, then you've got a problem.
Battery or starter! I'm betting the battery or battery connections.

All lights work, I checked the connections they look good. Is there a Facebook page I can upload a video? The dealership wants $400 for a diagnostic test, which is ridiculous!

If you put the juice, it the intake and it didn't fire, then you got to see if you have spark. Check all the fuses, do you have a kill switch on a Ryker? got to check for spark!! Do they have a key or are they using that magnet thing? I am just throwing things in the pool!! Good luck

Try opening throttle all the way and crank it, this clears out the cylinder without shooting more gas in there. Possibly it's flooded, from too many start attempts?

I'm confused. First post says cranks no start, then later posts say battery good, but won't crank? If it cranks over, then remove the cover for the air filter, shoot some brake kleen or starter fluid in there and crank it over. If no go then, it probably means no spark. If it doesn't crank over at all, check the battery first, if it's good, I would pull the plugs and then see if it cranks over.

Good advice.

The phrase 'dead battery' doesn't necessarily mean a lifeless battery. This needs to be sorted first.

The battery can easily have enough charge for the lights etc to work, but not enough to turn the engine over. The battery may also hold more charge after recharging, enough to turn the engine over, but still be unable to provide enough charge to start the engine! A load test by someone who knows how to do it properly to rule out a dead battery is the first thing that needs to happen - you can squirt as much starter fluid into the throttle body as you like, but it is unlikely to fire if the battery doesn't have enough charge under load to start the engine!

We don't know if the battery is the original or a cheap replacement. If it's a more than two - three years old, it is almost certainly dead, given the description of the problem.

^ Agree! But you do need to be aware that while a load test that still shows 10.5 volts or better might mean a battery is still 'good' for an old style plugs'n points style carby fed engine, it's not good enough for one of our modern EFI & intensively computer managed engines - with Spyders and Rykers, if your battery drops anything much below about 12 volts while under starting loads, then the battery likely isn't going to be up to the task of getting &/or keeping everything going!! 😖

So bear that in mind when load testing/getting it load tested - your battery might be OK under the 'old school' guidelines, but if it doesn't still punch out 12 volts or more when starting your modern power hungry fuel injected & computer controlled engine, then your Ryker won't always start &/or run properly!

PLEASE be aware & don’t keep starter turning more than 10-15sec at a time. Give the starter time to cool between attempts (30-40min) otherwise it will burn out, & quicker than you think. And, the last ride did you get gas? Do some side investigating see if that station has been reported for bad gas.

Think I heard that once before 🙃.
