• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ryding with a dog?

Okay, I know this might sound stupid to a lot of people but I'd love it if I could take my dog riding with me. Unfortunately I'm not talking about a lap dog here. (Almost regret not getting a Chihuahua...) I own a 2012 RT-S and am owned by a 55lbs Samoyed boy, the two things I love most in this life.

I would love it if my boy could enjoy trips with me instead of having to wait at home for my return. However I can't seem to find a solution for a dog this big that is safe for both dog and driver. Do you guys and girl have any suggestions for me?

 This is a pretty tall order...

The Missus carries our little Tink (A five pound Pomeranian) in an Outward Hound pouch...

...Which won't work in your circumstance. :yikes:
I have seen trailers that have been designed to carry pets; but have no experience with them. Some have been pronounced as much better than others, so shop carefully!

Good Luck, and Happy Hunting!

EDIT: I found this site, which may give you a bit more information:

There are several options for trailers but please be sure that if you get one your dog will have proper ventilation. I guess I would say if you wouldn't ride in it then your dog shouldn't either.

There is a thread on here somewhere were someone has a seat that the dog can sit in and there are teathers to the handles on the passenger seats for dogs up to 70 pounds.

Check out this site. Friend of mine has a service dog that rides with him. Kimi weighs about 45 pounds.

Tough one..!!

trailers would be your best bet in my opinion. Not knowing how your large dog will act ryding in the back seat and the whole security of it would really scare me. There are ryders here that have some great rigs that also allow for extra storage space. Wish I could find the nicest one all aluminum with windows and sunroof to post for you but maybe she will post it.... google dog trailer there are many out there....

Thanks Bruiser I could not remember where I had seen it. I did remember it because I have a 65 lb. dog and if she wasn't 11 years old I would be getting one for her. Maybe the next one.

Your request is not crazy. I also have been looking for a long time for something my dog can ride in on my Spyder. If you find something please post on this site. thanks
BIG F

The only dog carrier that I found that would be large enough for your dog is the Beast Rider dog seat
They are custom made to fit the Spyder
And they are expensive [but my dog is worth it]
You would have to lift your dog into the seat
It is the best made seat and has a very thick harness and three point attachment
Here is a pick of my 2 dogs
The larger dog [Fox] is in the beast rider
She is 30 pounds and has room to lay down if she wants to

My wife and I were riding recently and saw a couple riding a Harley stopped at a small convenience store. I noticed they had a BIG dog with them, no idea what kind, just BIG. I wondered how they were riding two up and carrying such a large dog so I stopped to see. Turns out they had a trailer for the dog which I couldn't see until I stopped. They said the dog loved to ride in it and he was always ready to go when he saw them hooking it up.

In this part of west Texas, there are lots of working dogs, sheep, cattle, hunting, etc. and I often see dogs in trailers pulled behind pickups. I hadn't thought about it but many of them are small enough to pull behind a Spyder. It would seem like the thing to do for a big dog. The only concerns I could think of would be potential exhaust fumes and noise if the bike had loud pipes.

Getting a larger Pet up on the passenger seat, and in some sort of secure carrier could pose a problem.
If you're carrying a 50 pound, or larger dog up on the pillion pad; how do you get them in place? :dontknow:

Glad to see your Shiba lets you drive! :)

When we had Shibas, it was more like... "What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine too!"
