Running rough at low speeds?

Anyone having issues with spyder running rough at low speeds when the engine is hot. I have had dealer look but couldnt find anything. Popping and surging in first and second gear 35mph or less. 2009 gs5,with power commander, tuner, racing air box, 2 brothers exhaust,40,000miles. Any input would be great.

The power commander and tuner, as well as the exhaust system would be on my suspect list. There were lots of threads of 08 and 09 :ani29: with issues if the set up was not just right.

My thoughts....

On your Power Commander setup, do you have an O2 sensor for each cylinder?

I have a stock 2009 GS5. The bike runs great 95% of the time.
Leaving on a ride on a 70 degree day, the bike is running great. As the day progresses and the temperatures rise into the 85-95 range I can tell a difference in smoothness of power.
Some small stumbling in the application of power, but not like you seem to be experiencing.
I've talk with my tech at Rusty Palmer's in Honesdale, Pa. He attributes this "problem" to the fact that the earlier Spyders don't have an O2 sensor for each cylinder. Running conditions between cylinders change as operating temps go up.
That's my 2 cents, and don't forget to check those two small vacuum hoses on the left side of the motor by the intake manifold.....

:dontknow: Having spent WAYYY too much money on making snowmobiles run (much!) faster over the years :

This is what has to be expected, when you change things on what is otherwise a perfectly well-running machine. nojoke
Each change will require a change to something else... and so on... and so on... :banghead:

And I feel bad about saying this.
Good luck with finding the correct setup. Please let us know when you do, because it'll definitely help the NEXT guy!

Could be several things, the map sensor hoses as stated above is a great place to start. The camshaft position sensor is what times the fuel to each cyl. you may wanna do that test. Look it over real good for vacuum leaks. (maybe give it the old carb cleaner test). Im pretty new to ownership on these things and have not read up on the purge system yet but if that is faulty it can give the same type of indications as a vacuum leak in my experience with other vehicles. I am assuming of course that all of your mods were done a while ago and has been running well since their installation. And don't rule out plug wires, I was told that they are severely problematic on these things, especially where the fwd wire runs between the cylinders. Also if you did not use good di-electric grease on you tuner, pull the plugs apart, clean them and get some DC4 or equiv. on them. Had a similar problem on a hd street glide (YEP NOT GONNA CAPITALIZE THAT) and it was just some corrosion on the power commander plugs. Good Luck to ya!

Same Issue

I have the same problem... in between 3k and 4.5k rpms sounds like its skipping. Makes it hard to maintain a 30mph speed or to yeild a turn in 2nd gear. I had juice box installed previously with same results. Luckily my local pd doesn't mind me running about 40mph in a 30mph zone so....(knocking on wood).

Well....

I would start with the vaccum hoses...They are tricky with heat and flexibility high vaccum pressure may seal the leaks if not bad yet but with low pressure they may leak and cause problem....

20150726_160909.jpg seemingly good...20150726_160929.jpg just stating to be a problem....
