• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Run out of Fuel

anybody run out of fuel?
Trying to figure out how much is left when the light comes on and when the last bar is lit.
Will that last bar go out? or is it always lit?
If it goes out, then how much do you have left?
Since I never know how much I have when I fill my tank, since it never seams full when I fill it.
Stefan

I have the large one and love, it's mounted on the bottom of my saddle bag

I just find it comforting to know how many miles I can go before gas -- as I prefer to stop less and ride/drive more. I try to get the gas to the same height in the tank on each fill so that 1) it gives me an accurate read of how the vehicle is doing mechanically, 2) it gives me a good idea how far I can go on a tank and how many miles I have remaining according to where the fuel gauge is reading.

Yes I know all about the average mileage over the life of the vehicle -- and it all evens out -- unless of course your in the middle of Nevada and there is no gas for 150 miles or more

running ou of gas

Listen to all of you for Petes sake stop and get fuel. Why take the chance and suck up some **** of the bottom of the tank.

I've got a friend with a Suzuki Water Buffalo, that's just taking up space in his back yard... ;)

Hmmmm..... And all this time I thought it was God who made Water Buffalo...

I seldom look at my gas gauge. I know I get 30/31 mpg on Big Red 1 and set my mileage on my GPS to zero when I fill up. When it gets to 150, I start looking for a station. If in west Texas, I start looking at 100. I figure I have about 6 usable gallons in my 6.7 tank, so that would give me 180 or so....with a little to spare. My Wing?....I run to 180 as I get a little better mileage with it.

so from what I have read -- on the 2014 they rate the tank at 6.7 gallons?

but you can only use fuel down to 6.2 until it no longer picks up fuel? -- seems that should be adjusted

we have gone over 200 with out the light coming on with my wife's 2014 RT LT. It seems we put in 5.3 gallons -- Spyder took just a tad more than my bike did

In my earlier post I stated I put 6.2 gal. twice
I did not run out of gas either time
So it will take more than 6.2 gal.

To each their own, never run completely out thankfully, avg 160mile per tank any grade, 20mile is all i would risk after light comes on i keep @least 3bars on mine, iPhone app gas cubby is helpful and have the garmin gps set up with its version of fuel gauge/gas log, extra reminder when i do get distracted &lost in the ride, it shows gas stops &in witch direction, with out me having to "search" handy

I didn't run out but I must have been running on fumes last week, pulling my trailer. I think the light comes on when the next to last bar goes off. Pulling the trailer I figured about 15 miles per bar after the first 15 or 20 miles. I then got at least 10 miles after the last bar disappeared but the bike was still running when I got to the pump. Filling it up to the tippy-top I put in 6.157 gallons.
Sorry I was out of town,
So the last bar did go out. that is good info, because I wasn't sure if I had 20 or so miles when the last light remained or went out.
Not that I'm trying to push it but sometimes you need to

In all the bikes I have owned, I have always been able to squeeze more gas into the tank than rated --

On this Spyder I have not been able to get the gas to stay in the filler neck -- it just creeps down -- this makes it difficult for me to get an accurate reading on the fuel mileage -- as I like a good reference point

I have filled it until it kicks off and then taken a lot of time to get it up to the top -- to no avail == when I think its there, it seeps away -- no puddle or over flow under the bike

This is my problem also

DON'T try to...
If you overfill the tank; you WILL end up with raw gas in the evaporative canister...
And that's a mess...

Was ryding yesterday. Didn't get gas when I got down to 2 bars. Stupid me!!! And I left my trusty gas can at home. :gaah:

Last light went out with 144 miles on the tank. Went 13 more miles and finally see a gas station. I was sweating it! Thought it would take close to 6 gallons, but topped it off at 5.5 gallons. I could have probably gone another 10 miles.

I guess all Spyders are different. But I can go easily 20-25 miles after the last bar goes out on my 2012 RT.

gas?

have to fill slow,on, off, on, off, towards the top. I have a 2010RT,SE5. getting 37.2 mpg last fill. I thought I normaly got about 32.mpg
