Run out of Fuel

anybody run out of fuel?
Trying to figure out how much is left when the light comes on and when the last bar is lit.
Will that last bar go out? or is it always lit?
If it goes out, then how much do you have left?
Since I never know how much I have when I fill my tank, since it never seams full when I fill it.

When that, "Holy CRAP!" light comes on ; you've got just a touch over a gallon left...
:lecturef_smilie: Get Thee to a gasolinery; PRONTO!

A touch over a gallon left but no way to get out the last 3/4 of a gallon unless you turn your Spyder upside down!

I have ridden as much as 25 miles once the red light comes on.. I usually don't bother to get gas until it does. that is probably a habit from my earlier spiders when it seemed like I was always filling the tank.. the 2014 improved range certainly makes it nicer

I ran mine out to 209.7 yesterday. The light went on at 205 or so. 5.6 gallons to refill. That just about a gallon left folks.

That was only 37 mpg--a bit lower than my usual 40 mpg. I was taking the twisties a little faster than usual this tankful.

My farthest on a tank so far, is 213.2 miles.
The bike took only 5.0 gallons, for a 42.6 mpg effort!
No doubt; these triples rock the house! :2thumbs:

I try to not let the light come on. Three bars and I look for gas. Same with four wheels. To great a chance of a accident if you run out of gas. Two or four lane. I have heard, but do not know, that in some places, you can be fined a lot for running out of gas on a highway.
Case in point: Dad runs a truck out of gas, he and kids pushing it, kids hit and killed by drunk driver.

Interesting you mentioned that. It happened in 2012, and just two days ago, a jury acquitted the dad from charges for shooting and killing the drunk driver after the incident. The acquittal came even though everyone in the court room knew what happened. Interesting story.

I've never been below half a tank.

I fill up at home, go for an hour or two ride, then back home.

Easy lol

Doc,

Was that "25 miles" with an earlier model? Apparently from the posts here the 2014 does not go very far after that light comes on. It would be interesting to know the difference, if any, between 2014 and pre-2014 models in this regard.

There are too many variables to give a definite answer to how far you can go when the low fuel light comes on. Pushing it beyond 20 miles is really asking for it though.

I can tell you that, as with most fuel injected vehicles, when you start to run out of fuel, you are OUT of fuel. It's like hitting the kill switch. Every thing stops right now!

Uhhh... What I mean is, this person who will remain nameless told me this is what happened. I would NEVER be so foolish as to let MYSELF run out of fuel just before the drag races at Spyderfest.... :opps:

Think I might have met that person you spoke of at the drags. That person was not the only one too carried away to not look at their gas gauge. In fact quite a few nameless persons were back there filling up...

I seem to have heard about one or two nameless folks testing the fuel mileage at SF. :roflblack:

I agree with Ron. The "bingo" light comes on on my wife's 2010 RT before the one on my 2012 RT does. I have two bars left when hers comes on.

Whatever it is you remember is not admissible in court! I deny everything!
