• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

We've done it both ways, and a little discussed topic, is that having the trailer in tow, actually helps to add stability to the rear of the Spyder, especially nice in the twisties as evidenced by Lamonsters many runs with it in tow while ryding 'The Dragon' :bowdown:

I secure my trailer to a post at the motel. I have never heard of a RT622 trailer being stolen on this forum. I have heard of bikes being stolen in Canada I believe. Like it was a common occurrence. I have insurance on the bike and the trailer.

Might also have a transponder hidden in my trailer too;) This can be placed and used for many different things, can hold charge for upto 10 days if you only use the demand feature. Worth checking out. for less than $140

Just this last weekend, as mentioned above...used a ball lock, covered it, and used one of these

to lock it to one of the storm grates in the parking lot. Nice that it was there to save my parking spot for me too when I came back from the day's riding :-)

Also, if not already mentioned, get you some tire chocks to help hold it in place if you happen to have to park it in an inclined parking lot/space.
 
Think you'll find that the surroundings will dictate whether you're semi comfortable leaving it or not. And has been said, if you do leave it, do all you can to make yourself more comfortable for having done so. Locks, cables, chains, etc. As you know that's still no guarantee. Last year one of our members had his spyder stolen and it was locked inside a trailer parked at his motel. You should ask your insurance agent what your coverage is when attached or detached. jm2c

Re leaving the trailer hitched up gives better stability, is this true? I've never noticed. The only thing I notice is backing up with the damn thing on. It's a pain! Never make it as a trucker.

My trailer should be here any day now. Thanks for starting and replying to this thread.

I have not started looking, but do you have specific recommendations or best sources for ball locks, wheel locks and cables. What kind of wheel locks are there besides cables? How long a cable is needed to get the wheels, stand and a post?

For the hitch, I just use a good padlock. Allows it to be locked onto the Spyder to boot. For the wheels, I use a 10' (I think) Master cable lock I got at Menards. There are lots of other options out there made specifically for trailers, including locks that fit into the ball socket. Available almost anywhere these days, including home improvement stores, big box stores like Walmart, tractor supply stores, trailer shops, and RV centers. It doesn't really take anything special. look in the trailer section anywhere...or just in the padlock section.

Laugh it up Annie, its your fault I have one. But I like it better going forwards than back ;). Joy keeps nagging me (did I really say that? Good thing she don't read SL) how to back up. Next time I'll let her do it. Lol

Unless you drive fairly aggressively and are mindful of the spyders handling characteristics under those conditions you would probably never notice how well it counter balances the spyder. Not something I recommend anyone experiment with though.

Put my mother-in-law in the back and leave it on the side of the freeway, nobody has stole it yet!!!!

Pull it into the space, and back it out. You have more room that way, as the drive is usually wider than the parking place. The keys to backing are to go slow, and to pull forward and to correct as soon as you sense the trailer is headed the wrong way. You cannot correct if it gets very far off line, with the short trailer and the wide turning radius of the Spyder.
