RT SCREEN/DISPLAY - Help

Not sure if I have a problem or not.

During daylight hours, I am noticing THREE distinct bands in my display.

The middle band (#2) is normal off white and bright takes up @ 1/5 of overall display
The upper and lower bands are darker and wider. Each takes up about 2/5 of display.
Contrast is 100%
Also if traveling in the sun glaring on the panel for several hours the panel (screen) disappears going completely dark.
I'm thinking bad less/lcds whatever they use

Below is a photo, not the best but you can see the banding!

Any ideas? Is this normal? Or time for a warranty visit

Try turning your contrast setting down a couple of notches... :thumbup:
Mu guess, is that when you crank it up to 100%; this is exactly what you're going to see... :shocked:
Try it at 90%, and let us know what happens; Good Luck!

Tnx bob, but exactly the same thing (three distinct bands) - except - not as "bright" (already tried that at at @ 5 increments from 0 - 100)
But why does it completely black out in long sun exposure or am I wrong there?
I might add, if I shut down the Spyder and restart, the display comes back to "normal"

PS Forgot to mention - regardless of how much sun or clouds the bands are visible durning the "daytime" lighting scheme for all levels of contrast.

Any digital panel/screen disappearing after a while in the blazing sun is usually a temperature related thing, & not a sign of the screen having bad components..... they can just get too hot to 'light' properly!!

We have some pretty hot days & bright sunlight over here in Aus, & early in the piece I had the screen blank out on me a couple of times; sounds very similar to what you described. Simple fix, shade &/or cool air. The 'safety card' can actually come in handy as an extendable screen shade just so long as you don't pull it so far out it wants to droop (getting that droop cos you pulled it out too far is always gonna be depressing! pps: ) and if you stop for a while, just make sure you park the bike so that the dash is shaded or slip the 1/2 cover on. If you can't keep the sun off it while you are riding, hold your left hand at an angle to the breeze every 10 mins or so to direct air flow at the dash, it won't take much to cool it off.

Since I worked out that the dash display was just getting too hot to work & started doing those things almost 2 years ago now, it hasn't blanked out on me again! :thumbup:

The banding I can't help with, sorry. Haven't seen it on mine or on any of the other Spyders around here, & don't recall anything like that ever being mentioned on any of the local Spyder Forums either.

I have no real idea what would make it behave like that, altho I'd guess that if there is any sign of the banding still visible when the bike/dash is turned off, it could just be fading in the dash background media due to the middle strip being exposed to the bright sunlight/heat more than the upper & lower strips that may be shaded or less exposed to reflection part of the time..... but like I said, just guessing at that one. :sour:

'I complain but no one listens! This happens quite frequently to mine if I park in the direct sunlight. It has even happened while riding in slow traffic with the sun hitting the screen. It should go back to normal as soon as it is out of the sun and cools off.

No banding when off only when on. It's ;lie some LCDs (???) or whatever is used for backlighting died.
Well guess we will stop by the dealer. Only thing lost is time :yes:

You can clearly see the fading effect built in the screen.

I think some people should go look at thier Spyder before responding to questions leading some folks off in a bad direction thinking they have a problem.

I am pretty amazed many said they had never seen this before.

I don't think that's anything more than being part of the background graphics. I like the way it looks.

If you park with direct sunlight on the dash it will fade to complete black.
