RT muffler

With all of the talk recently about mufflers and exhaust systems, I thought I would toss in my 2 cents worth. Right after I got my Spyder, I got rid of the catalytic converter and installed a cat delete pipe, I didn't think I could afford a new muffler system. The cat delete was a positive experience but I still wanted a little more. PitBull Power Sports has recently come out with a new muffler system, polished stainless steel or black powder coat, and provides a 7 HP gain, and 4 more foot pounds of torque, on a dyno. I'm not selling these, but the price is $500.00 and includes the muffler and pipe. I guess the best thing I can say is that since putting it on I've experienced the best gas mileage I've gotten with my RT, and that stands a 3 tankfulls at over 40 mpg. Here is a small video of it.

I have PitBulls permission to post this video.

PITBULL MUFFLER

....Thank you for doing this, .....is there a Lamont BAFFLE in the pipe also ???.............and because no one just has a Spyder to let it sit and IDLE......maybe you could let us know what it sounds like at 3000 RPM's where it would spend most of it's time ...........Mike :bbq:

As Mike posted, I would love to hear a drive by at higher RPM.

As best I know locally there is not a dyno machine that will work with our 3 wheelers. We do not fit on a motorcycle dyno, nor do we fit on an auto dyno. Can they provide the base line stock power curves and overlay it with the power curves of their claimed 7 hp improvement?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no other baffle in that pipe. Let me say, I have no other baffle in mine, and that little clip is just like mine sounds. Not having a drive by sound bite was one of my complaints when shopping, I've been busy getting ready for bike week and all, let me see if I can get someone to man a camera and I'll do my best to get a drive bye sound bite.

All you have to do is call Whit Beeny at PitBull Powersports, he's the one I bought it from and get all my information from. PMK said that he had heard the same thing, My RT seems to have more power, and it will put to the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd with no apparent flat spot or power fall off. In other words, very linier power delivery. I've also gotten the best gas mileage in the 6,000 miles that I've put on the RT, ovef 40 mpg.

Dave ......Thank you, but you don't have to do a DRIVE BY......Just bring the REVS up to 3000 and record it.....Mike :bbq:

But Mike, I like driving by. hahahahah I just got back fro the eye doctor, and am vision impaired at the moment. I'll try to get something tomorrow.

Exhaust video with sound

I hope this is something that will help out. The first pause in applying the throttle is at 3,000 rpm, then a couple of blips, and the last pause is at 4.000 rpm, I had my phone about 5 or 6 feet away from the trike.

MEFFLER AT SPEED TESTING

:yes::yes:.....Thanks Dave, now I have a much better idea of real world operation would be like.......I'm an x-Gold Winger and I'm not sure That muffler would appeal to me for more than I hour......and my trips are usually 6 to 8 hrs........Mike :bbq:

What was gas mileage before?

Just curious, what was the average gas mileage before putting the Pitbull muffler on?? Just wondering how much of an increase you have experienced??? I love the sound of it on the video....Stock is just too quiet...And like the look in Stainless!!....And having the back pressure and heat gone from the cat removal seems like a plus also.....Seems like the only drawback would be if my wife can' t hear the radio as good going down the road, she would raise heck about that for sure...LOL!

DC1, I apologize, I meant to include that, but figured that since I had posted it previously, it might seem redundant. When I first go my RT (the end of October, 15) I was get- ting say, 32 to 34 mpg. but was also trying to learn the power characteristics of the Spyder. Somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 miles my mileage was around 34-36 mpg. Like you, I thought the Spyder was too quiet, and at idle sounded like a sewing machine, and installed a cat delete pipe, mainly to get rid of the heat it produced, but also for a little more sound. This worked pretty well, sounded good to me going down the road, but at idle it still had the sewing machine sound. It did seem to provide a little more power, and my gas mileage at times was around 38 mpg Around 4,000 miles I learned about the exhaust I recently mentioned, I now have over 6,000 miles on the Spyder and have seen very close to 42 miles per gallon 3 times, and like burning non-ethanol gas. The system is noisy, but not really loud, compared to some sport bikes and cruisers. I tend to ride aggressively at times, and when really getting on the gas, over 5,000 rpm It is loud, but then, that too depends on what helmet I have on my head.

Hope that helps you out somewhat, I am pleased with the system, I think I got my moneys worth. I forgot to answer one of your questions. We, my wife and I, have no problems listening to the radio, but then we do have Sena headsets. I think I can be safe to say, listening to the radio, thru the speakers, is not much different than with the stock system once you get to highway speeds.

I also replaced the cat and used a two brothers sr1 muffler with a p4 silencer on my 14 rtl. I have gotten 43 mpg on last three tanks average mostly highway cruzing. Good modification in my opinion.
