• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Route planning

I don't remember this being covered before, so; Is there a software package that will allow me to "build" a route and download it to a GPS unit? My 1490 seems to dislike super slabs and love loops through high density traffic.

I have good news and bad news. First, any of the mapping programs, like Google Maps, MapQuest, Bing Maps, or MS Streets & Trips will let you download to a GPS or create an export .GPX file that you can then import. The bad news is that they generally just import the waypoints, and not the exact route, so you still have to modify the route on the GPS to suit. In some cases it is quite impossible. I could not get the GPS to follow the Blue Ridge Parkway for the entire route last year to save my life.

Most GPS units have a setting that can allow you to set the preferred roads to the Interstates, or avoid them. I'd check your settings.

Set the navigation preference on your GPS to faster time rather than shorter distance. This will automatically create routes that favour super slabs.

As Scotty indicated previously, the 1490 will not allow you to download a programmed route from any software program. All you can transfer is Waypoints.
