• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

rerouting GPS

How hard would it be to reroute the factory GPS to the top of the dash for better viewing? How much taking apart would I need to
do? I like where its mounted other than it's a bit hard to keep an eye on. Judging from others on here they feel the same.

You have to remove the windshield, top of dash, and the right side panels. Well worth the effort.

Richard, if you do this would you be interested in selling your hanlebar mount?

StriperKing, gotta look into what it takes to get there first. I'm sure I will need to order some parts from Ram before it can
be moved. If I do move it I'll send you an IM on mount. Next weekend I got some days off and thinking about putting that
12v plug up front and that would be the time to move GPS also.

I seen where you had a couple adapter plates on yours. One for the dash and the other one on back of GPS. Where did you
get the extra and do you have item # from Ram? How long did you go between plates 2, 3 or 4 inch.

On my way

Lamont order those parts and they should be on the way. Problem now, was at dealer today having chrome handle bars installed. While there I had them remove the GPS harness from handle bars so that I could reroute wires to the dash. I noticed that the black wire at the plug in part was pulled out of plug. Got any ideals how I can fix that?

If the dealer pulled it out they should fix it for you. There's a tool for pulling the pins.

Not even sure the wire is needed. It looks like its been loose for a while anyway. I guess I'll talk with the dealer and see if it can be fixed if not maybe get by with a jumper wire. That shouldn't be a problem?

Looks like that's your ground wire.

Yes could be ground wire. It's that last wire on the right. It seems to be part of the audio out plug. Guess that might be the reason
it doesn't work with radio. I always used bluetooth with helmet. I'm guessing if I get that fixed it will work with AUX. on the bikes radio.
Would it not take over the Ipod when instructions are given by GPS?

Whatever it takes to get your sat-nav moved to where you can see the traffic with a minimum of eye movement is worth any amount of effort on your part. IMO BRP were irresponsible in siting the 660 down there between the handlebars. The sat-nav is a great tool but not when looking at it takes your attention away from the road. Pretty obvious safety concern, really, it makes you wonder what the h*ll they were thinking when they were deciding where to put it. :dontknow:

You can check out how and where I mounted my Zumo 550 in the DIY How To Step-by-Step Forum. "Mounting a Zumo up High" and "Mounting a Zumo up High - Job Done" may be of some use. ;)

I don't disagree that having a GPS as close as possible to your line of sight would be helpful, but I think that saying that "BRP was irresponsible" in putting it in the handlebar center is going too far. That means that tank bag manufacturers that include a map pocket are irresponsible, auto makers that put the GPS near the radio are irresponsible, and even the GPS manufacturers that instruct you not to block your field of vision when you mount the GPS are irresponsible. While there may be better or more convenient locations for the GPS, the factory location is an acceptable one. If you want it somewhere else, move it where you like it!

interesting topic

I agree, I didn't mind it where it was so much. If I had any complaint it was more pointed down than I would like. And didn't want to
spend the extra money for chrome mount to match handle bars. Anyway took harness back to dealer and had it fixed. Learned something also today on how to take apart those plugs and replace pins. Funny thing is now GPS plays threw radio like it was meant
to do all along. Got wires ran up and ready to go just waiting on the Ram parts to finish mod. Also installed 12v up front while all the tupperware was off. IMG_0315.jpgIMG_0314.jpgIMG_0316.jpg

rcdurango, here are the pics of the mount I got from you after I painted it black and mounted on the bike. The AMPs mount for my Garmin Nuvi came today also and it all fits like a glove. Thanks for the mount.

WoW I just looked at the pics after I posted them. It looks a lot better in person than in the pics. The flash made it look like it does not match very well but it does. :D

Joined up thinking at BRP when they were going through the design phase of the Spyder's cockpit must surely have revealed that their chosen 660 location, from the rider's point of view, was badly sited for safety reasons. If, as you say, BRP's position for the 660 is "acceptable", why are there a growing number of contributors to this forum who have moved, or are in the process of moving, their 660's to the top of the front bulkhead, including Lamont? Maybe they're doing it for aesthetic reasons...

Yes, I think it was "irresponsible" of BRP to mount the 660 where they did because in the design of the Spyder they could have placed it where it was safer, but chose not to. It isn't merely "helpful" to be able to keep an eye on the traffic while glancing at the 660's screen, on today's crowded roads it's essential.

To say if you don't like where BRP have put it, move it to where you like, is simply a cop-out. But I'm not surprised, such advice is in keeping with a general reluctance on the part of "old hands" on this forum to be critical of any of BRP's products, whether the fault be real or imagined.

Tank bags? In my view any rider who attempts to navigate a route from a paper map while riding his machine is an accident waiting to happen. It's his choice to do so and IMHO a stupid one at that - but I haven't always been a wise old bird and I'm guilty of doing so myself, in the years when I was foolishly young and indestructible. :D
