Recall & Maintenance Notices

Is there a good site, or sites, that carries a list of recall notices and maintenance bulletins for the Spyder? I would like to see the trends of what is going on with BRP on their issues. I also want to make sure I am covered on any recalls or important maintenance notices.

I will add my post to yours...

I posted this earlier and will add it to your request. Thanks.

Scotty, while we are on the subject, how do we know about recalls, upgrades, etc. Most companies send out notices by mail, but it doesn't seem BRP does this. I would have never known about the -7, -8 or -9 if Lamont and others had not posted the information here.

I guess the BRP policy is you get the upgrades at the dealer when you go for maintenance. Okay, fine, but many here do their own oil/filters and don't go to their dealer that often.

I consider thses present upgrades to be important and serious improvements. I think BRP has a way to go in their lack of notifications of upgrades.

Is there any web site we can go to see all upgrades.... I wonder what 2011-1 through -6 are?

Lots of room for improvement here by BRP!

Thanks BigRed1!

I was reading about the throttle body notice when I decided to post this message. I agree, BRP has a LONG way to go on customer notifications. As a minimum, I would expect them to have a section on their website to review any of the notices that they have been published. The only thing there is a 'Recall' section that only lists a notice for the reverse actuator issue on the RT with manual transmissions.

Recalls do get notification. Service bulletins are another matter, and few manufacturers notify owners about them.

Scotty is correct...We are advised of safety recalls, but not upgrades...the dealer will need to tell you....if they are paying attention and you visit them once in a while....some don't....I am glad our friends here tell of these things when they find out.

See the other post on shop talk.

As usual right on the money Scotty... these are not recalls. These are services that the dealer needs to do when you bring the machine in. My dealer always checks my vin when I bring in my bike and gets the info from the computer. My understanding (and I sure it will be corrected) is that these are not safety related or critical to function of the machine. They do fix potential problems, and I have had all but the parking brake done, and have never had a problem that needed addressing to this point. I purchased a used Ford and checked with the dealer and there were 10 SB's that the vin showed as needing to be done. One was to replace one bolt that holds the drivers seat in place, another to lube the passenger door handle to prevent possible lock ups ...... Just saying...

I owned a retro '05 Thunderbird for a few years and there were numerous updates and a few recalls. I was never notified of any of the updates.

Manufacturers only let you know about recalls (I believe that is all they are legally obligated to do), and updates are the owner's responsibility to check on. Obviously, the dealer should be advising (or handling) updates when the vehicle is serviced but if you don't service at a recognized dealership you are on your own.

I don't have a problem with that but then, I stopped doing my own service work when they stopped using points and condensers.

OK, maybe my terminology was incorrect. I was calling the maintenance bulletins what you are calling service bulletins. I would still like to see a place that I can go to review any outstanding items that are available. How did anyone find out there was a service bulletin out for the throttle bodies?

I love my Spyder and want to keep it in good shape and want to make sure I have covered the items that 'should' be addressed via these bulletins.

As far as recalls; I have had several recalls that I have found out about via other means, not from the factory. These were for automobiles, not the Spyder. I do review sites like the NTSB to see if there are any listed for my automobiles.

Sorry if I came off strong on this, or my prior, post, but I would think it would be in BRP's best interest to 'get the word out'.

just my $0.02 worth....

I find out about many of the service bulletins, TSBs, or Warranty Campaigns (BRPs term) from my dealer. I hear about others here. I had throttle fault codes and "Check Engine" lights, plus some other issues, so I visited the dealer a few weeks back for warranty service. I had heard a rumor that a bulletin was about to be released for the throttle body failures, and my tech contacted BRP about my problem and confirmed this. When the TSB was issued, I learned of that fact here first...then visited my dealer to view the actual bulletin. I agree that since this is preventative in nature, the owners of 2011 RTs should be notified. There was a rumor that they would, but I never received any notification.

Thanks,

I was reading on another thread something that made a lot of sense on why they may not publish them. Some people would become TSB fanatics and bug their shop for every update published. I guess I am more of the line, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. However, I would like to see what is happening with the bike as a whole. That way, if something is going on, I could check there to see if it was just the nut behind the wheel, or a trend had developed.

Guess I will just keep up with this site. It really is a great place to get information and a lot of good folk as well.

Long before most dealers know about a service bulletin , You'll read about it here first.

While I agree with this, it is a shame that this is the case. Dealers are advised of bulletins by email or whatever, but it seems someone at the dealership would be aware of these bulletins coming in....perhaps being loaded into their BUDS computer or whatever.

As said, posting recalls/upgrades may turn us into bothering the dealers for the improvements...so what. If the company thinks my Spyder should be upgraded, then I will bother the dealer...Duh. If the design had been done properly, there would be few recalls, upgrades, etc... JMHO

Recall vs. Service upgrade...

Does the dealer have to do the service upgrades even if nothing is apparently wrong if asked? Also, is it at their cost or mine?

Recalls are another thing.

Thanks

I guess we pay for upgrades. I know when I go in for my 3K oil/filter change, they will run the BUDS system and check the Spyder over...I pay nearly $200 for this so I guess I pay for BUDS updates.... When the dealer changed out a magnet in my DPS, taking him about 45 minutes it was at no charge and they also ran the BUDS for any upgrades.....which if there were any, they were also at no charge.

If we aren't going to post the 2011 service bulletins on the spyderlovers home page then why do we have the 2010 bulletins listed?

Go to http://en-us.spyder.brp.com select your bike and select recall notices.
