Recall done first impressions after stop & go traffic

I got the recall done at Redline the service dept seems to be improving. Took them 6hrs mine was the first they did. Now driving 501 out of Myrtle Beach at 5pm means bumper to bumper. What should have bee 10 minute ride was 40 min.

1. Yes as long as it gets to move once in a while there is less heat.
2. Pulled gas cap at home tank was barely warm.
3. No fuel smell in the garage.

Next couple of days weather will be iffy but this weekend summer officially arrives with 100deg+ heat indexes so I will do a 2 hr ride (or longer depends on traffic) down to Georgetown and back up 17 (ocean Blvd) back to my house. I will come back and give a full report. Oh and the scoops look much better than I imagined they would and they make my bike run faster than Bob's :roflblack:

Thanks for the update, the scoops like great on you bike. Still waiting on dealer to call when they receive the kits. Have you given any more though to adding the vent to your windshield? I would really like to get your thoughts on this.

Good to hear..!!

the more we see these threads the more it looks like they did find a solution. glad it is doing so much better fir you...:ohyea::ohyea:

Will be looking forward to hearing about your "acid test" ride on the weekend. So far, so good.:yes:

Awesome Dave , ours goes in the morning, hope to hear postive report on the winshield vent want something to replace loss of adj vents ( crome ! ):doorag:

So far 9 out of 10 reviews have been positive. I heard one that said that their Spyder wouldn't idle properly, it would race up high then drop below the normal idle rpm. That was a problem I had on my 13.

Update: The rough idle was said to be caused by bad plug wires.

Thanks for the initial report. It sounds real promising for you - especially your initial observations about the fuel temperature.

I too will be anxiously awaiting your comments after the longer ride this weekend.

These changes should be done on all RT's if you ask me.

Gas fumes is still an issue on pre-2013 models!

:agree: There were also recorded fires on a few pre-2013 RT's. As I said before, it just doesn't make sense to me that they wouldn't do all or part of this on pre-2013 RT's. They may be waiting to see how field results go on this current campaign. There is no way to tell if that will happen until BRP is ready to say something about it. But if I had a pre-2013 RT, I'd be calling them. ;)

IMHO the least that should be done is the scoops, prefilter (catch can?) and engine panel removal. I believe that will make a world of difference on the inside engine bay temp and cool the tank resulting in less if not eliminating all fuel fumes.

Plus I do not like being a one off custom model. At least we could all look the same.

One additional comment someone else mentioned but the spine over the engine under the seat can actually be touched now it was almost cool to the touch.:thumbup:It would almost burn my hand before. I also have to mention I wrapped my tank in DEI reflective tape last year so that may be a factor in my results too.

Yes the frame under the seat did not get hot at all. I only rode 50 miles of combined stop and go, and freeway riding at 96 degrees ambient, but the frame was not hot. I also have insulation on my tank , around the glove box, and covering the frame hole under the seat so no hot air can get in there. I think the recall really helped all of the insulating I did prior to the recall.

:thumbup:Exactly the same insulating I did on mine. My glove box is now usable. Maybe people should get a few rolls of DEI heat tape when they go in for the recall and duplicate what we had done.:dontknow: If anyone want to see mine check my picture album.

:lecturef_smilie: No....... That's not correct. I NEVER had any problems with fuel smells, or overheating of any type with my 2010. ;)

And others in here have also reported the same good luck!

Anne, was that the guy at Can Am Spyder Owners on facebook?

He posted late last night: "So they finally figured out that my front spark plug wire went bad. said it was shooting out really good. Bad news is they said there are no front plug wires in the state. Going to be a week. Does anyone know what the deal is with a "front spark plug wire"? thanks"

I suggested he get a set of wires from Baja Ron . . .

They'll fit; there's no doubt about that...
The important question would seem to be:
"When might they become available, for the rest of the RTs?"
