• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Recall done first impressions after stop & go traffic

...So I don't think the 2010-12 need all the updates but the scoops and canister updates should be done to make the rest of us happier with the product. I just want the gas smell gone to be honest!

I agree, but I'll tell you this... in my case the trick to getting rid of the boiling gas and the associated fumes was to remove the cat that sits under the fuel tank, and wrap the headers and the cat bypass pipe with exhaust tape. Once I did those things on my 2013 RT, I never experienced boiling gas or fumes again.

(After typing that however, I realized that living in California, you may not have that option.)

Currently Ca. does not do smog checks on motorcycles. They have to have the CAT for new sales but if a user removes it, they do not check even on resale. So I could do a cat delete but I prefer not to right now and rather if I can get the scoops, do that and see.

Having done both at different times, the new scoops and removal of the acoustic panels makes a much bigger difference in dropping under body temps.

Report back what you find out.

I talked to a dealer. The price they see for the kit is $279. I am sure that is "cost" not retail.

For that price and maybe even a mark-up from a dealer, I will buy the kit if it becomes available for general order.

Thanks, Bob!
If you consider what a set of Vertika's scoops cost; almost anything less than about $600 might seem like a great bargain. nojoke

Anne, was that the guy at Can Am Spyder Owners on facebook?

He posted late last night: "So they finally figured out that my front spark plug wire went bad. said it was shooting out really good. Bad news is they said there are no front plug wires in the state. Going to be a week. Does anyone know what the deal is with a "front spark plug wire"? thanks"

I suggested he get a set of wires from Baja Ron . . .

I find it hard to believe that a motorcycle repair shop cannot make up a set of HT leads! I always made my own mainly to get rid of the complete crap
carbon leads that manufacturers fit. Although carbon leads are supposed to be self suppressing for RFI, there's no substitute for a set of good quality
copper leads with a traditional suppressor cap or an in-line suppressor. Good copper leads can be bought by the foot/metre on line or from a motor parts factor and if you're unable to do it
most will make up a set for you if you give them an old lead which is intact.. Given the correct materials I can make up a lead in under 5 minutes...it really is that easy.
Bajaron's lead sets are excellent and will last a lifetime if care is taken with removal and refitting.

I use the UK term "HT leads". You guys call them "HT wires".

Perhaps one of the Spyder aftermarket vendors could manufacture reasonably priced after market air scoops for prior year 2013 RT's? I think removal of the inner acoustic panels and the air scoops would make a difference in riding comfort for sure. If BRP does at some point does offer this recall on earlier year RT's then perhaps they will offer owners a rebate for fixes they accomplished similar to what the 2013 owners are receiving. Just a thought.

You may not have had problems but many others including me have.

I don't care about the heat as it doesn't bother me. But on hot days stuck in traffic, when I get home the tank is boiling gas and the canister is exhausting fumes. MANY other people have complained of this even before the 2013's came out! So while you may not have had it, others have and I am speaking from experience.

So I don't think the 2010-12 need all the updates but the scoops and canister updates should be done to make the rest of us happier with the product. I just want the gas smell gone to be honest!
