• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Rear Wheel Bearing Brand Prefernces

Had a rear tire change today and a bearing is starting to fail, which means it's time to change regardless. None in stock in the area and several options online.
Any brand prefered choices?

I have had no problems with the NSK bearings the CanAm supplies and the pricing through BRP parts is not bad on these. Under $50 for a full set the last time I ordered.

How many miles did you get on the current bearings?

With the new lower belt tensions, this is less of the problem it used to be. I used to swap them every other rear tire change on my GS.. which was every 16,000 miles since I would only get 8,000 out of a rear tire.

With the lower belt tensions I'd think you can easily double the life of them. What you really don't want happening is the bearing to seize and then spin in the hub.

No sense putting the wheel back on after a tire change if you think a bearing is starting to go.... replace them while it's already apart.

I just went with the stock bearing and soft parts from Cheap Cycle parts IPC. They have all been delivered and getting changed Tuesday. I have a few other bikes to ride, not as busy on the Spyder in the past few years. These bearings have over 30,000 miles on them.

I will try to come up with some other pics, susfrat.

Were you having wheel bearing failures or pulley carrier bearing failures?

By design, the belt tension places no load into the wheel bearings. The pulley is supported by its own bearing setup to prevent belt tension loads to be isolated from the wheel bearings.

Some have mentioned the bearings are an excessively tight press fit into the wheel hub. This, could be causing the outer race to crush slightly, and over time eating the wheel bearing.
 
Yes, it was new-old stock '09, bought it in 2010. It's been a great machine, spent some time on the track here, I haven't done that with it for 3 years now. We just go scrambling around on it, we ride the Triumph Street Cup and Ninja 400 more often. If the Ryker had this same seating position, a little less plastic on the nose and a handbrake, it would be my next trike. I just don't like all the Spyder plastic.
