That's on the Nullarbor (it's West of us here in SA), not the Hay Plain - altho the Hay Plain (East of us here)
is about 700 km across, and unlike the Nullarbor, there's a few largish towns along the way, with no more than about 340 km between them, AND there are actually some trees too!
I done the Nullarbor on a Spyder a couple of times so far, always in a bit of a rush, picking up &/or delivering a Spyder for/to someone else; but I am still aiming to do a leisurely tour on my RT one day, maybe with the Child Bride as a pillion.

We've got close to doing that a couple of times, only to get stopped by stupid things like COVID outbreaks, heat waves, or floods. But I have crossed the Nullarbor numerous times both ways on a variety of 2-wheelers; other people's Prestige Autos; mine & others 4WD's; and in a range of private &/or work (mine & others) cars, trucks, Semi's, Road Trains, aircraft of various sizes, and a couple of times, even by ultra-light aircraft; and very memorably, I once flew from Adelaide to Sydney to pick-up and then repair/prepair/drive/deliver one very old & retired Sydney Urban Transit Authority Double Decker bus with a 500+ hp Leyland V8 diesel engine & a Wilson pre-selector gearbox that was then diff governed to an absolute top speed of 50 kph/about 30 mph (ie. power & torque out the whazoo, but if its wheels were on the ground, it wouldn't go faster'n 50 kph down a vertical cliff with a tornado tail wind!!

) all the way across the Country from Sydney via the Nullarbor to Perth - I can tell you that was a verrrry loooong, hot, and verrry tiring trip! But a great adventure too!
We've got some biiig wiiiiide open spaces over here in Oz! And what can often loosely be labelled as 'roads' crossing them!
