• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

As of December 2021 Google says:

"...about 300 signs officially maintained by the company, all along or nearby the I-90 corridor across South Dakota, Wyoming and western Minnesota."

No pictures of the sign survey. We were driving a Yamaha Venture in those days. I did take a LOT of pictures of the Badlands, Wall Drug, and Mt. Rushmore. Remember cameras with film and actual photo's. ???? The pictures are packed away ?somewhere? But I have no way of putting them up on the site. :bowdown:

Not long ago I gathered up all my printed pictures from my 35mm days, and went through them for the ones I wanted to keep.
What triggered that was one of my sisters sending me a VHS tape they took at my college graduation, and my trying to figure out how to transfer it to digital.
I also had a couple of cassette tape recordings of our father.

And I found iMemories.com.

You send them your photos, videos, even movie film and they will digitize it, and even return the originals to you.

They won't transfer copyrighted materials, so if you have an old VHS movie you bought, but don't have a VHS player anymore you're out of luck.

So I did all that, and selected the Digital Download option, useful only if you have high speed internet and a good amount of storage on your computer.
They can also copy it to USB thumb drives, which they charge extra for, or burn everything to a DVD to Blu-ray disc, for another charge.

After downloading everything to an external hard drive, I bought some USB thumb drives, copied everything to the USB drives, and sent the copies to my sisters.

And of course once they're digital you can post them here. :D

If you have a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints genealogy center near you, they have machines there that you can use to digitize films and photos to your own thumb drive or to Google Drive. If they are real busy you may have a time limit on how long you can use a machine but otherwise there is no limit. There is no charge, and anyone can use the service. They will also give you a little training if you need it. If you have a large chapel or Temple near you, there is frequently a genealogy center attached. Check your phone book under Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Disclaimer: Yes, I am a member, but this is just for informational purposes only.

Not true at all. One of the avid hunters that worked with me, was bragging about all the free meat in his freezer. He had killed 2 deer that season. Some of the other equipment operators made him go to the chalk board at the front of the break room, and start a list of his expenses to go hunting. Started off easy with the cost of the hunting license. Then it got serious with the lease of 400 acres and the utilities for the hunting camp. Cost of the deer feeders and corn to fill them. After the new 4x4 every 3 or 4 years, and the expense of feeding the dogs and vet bills, he decied he didn't want to know any more. It came out to about $20 a pound, before it ever got to the freezer at home.
 
At least he has something to show for it.

I used to hunt and a day in the woods was great, even if we came home empty handed (just like fishing).
If I had all the money I spent on bikes and trucks, I would have a much nicer house.
