• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Random things I learned about my spyder this weekend...

1. I'm missing the rectangular rear inserts on my Givi hard bags on my RS. They weren't there when I bought it used so I did not notice they were missing. Maybe an excuse to buy the LED's

2. The battery is a real PITA to change if you have the Givi bags. Those turn signal extension brackets stink to get on and off. I think it was ArntUFun that was pushing the original battery in his 08... I would not want to try to replace that battery at the side of the road.

3. There are two pins on the 6 pin diagnostic connector labeled +12 Volts in the schematic. Pin 5 is +12V and is always hot whether the key is in or not. Pin 4 is +10V only and switched by the key.

4. The Motobatt battery I ordered off ebay I really should have sent back, it is too snug a fit (yes I removed the tray). But I succumbed to temptation and tapped it into place with a hammer. Gonna be a booger to get it out when the time comes. Hopefully it lasts a long, long time.

The turn signal relocation bracket on the left side has to come off before you can even get the body panel off. Then there is the female bracket that mates with the upper and forward bracket for the factory side hard bags that blocks the battery from coming out. Both are very little tool clearance.

I purchased these in January 2011, and they were the complete plastic lens. My used bags came without them as the previous owner had no colour insert panels. The inserts are what holds the reflector in.

Now it is starting to make a little more sense. When I bought my Spyder last year it lacked the reflectors and the color inserts. I bought the inserts second hand from a board member, not realizing the reflectors should have been part of the kit.

So what you are saying is the color trim kit includes the reflector housing?

THE PERCEIVED MOTOBATT BATTERY PROBLEM

Since I'm the person who told Spyder Monkey to buy the MotoBatt........and after reading about His Problem with it.....I feel compelled to say that I have TWO MotoBatt Batteries......One in my 08 GS, and the other in my 2011 RSS.....They both were installed without any issues....Yes they are a SNUG fit but I would rather have that then a LOOSE Battery banging around in the Holder........Hey Coz you bought a MotoBatt......Did you have any problems.....Did anyone else who purchased one have an problems.......I'm very curious / concerned about this.........Mike :shocked::shocked:

The "reflectors" are merely pieces of thin white plastic, placed behind the lenses....at least that's the way Nancy's were. I replaced them with pieces of chrome tape, cut to fit, with the backing left in place. You could also fasten the tape to the original reflectors. Those are considerably more reflective.

Alright, a picture is worth a lot here:IMG_2405.jpg
I bought my spyder as shown with no lenses, no inserts, no color trim. I later bought the color trim piece from a board member.

Where should the lenses have come from, the R-35 kit or the color trim kit?

I don't know what to tell you, I'm not at all mad. You made a recommendation in good faith and it does seem to be an excellent battery.

I should have resisted the urge to tap it in place but once I whacked it once, I realized there was no returning it because it swaged off a millimeter of plastic.

I don't know if my box is tighter clearance than yours or if the Motobatt plastics had a slight variation but it literally took about 10 gentle taps with a hammer to get it in place. I am hoping that it lasts a good 5+ years before I have to work it out from the other side.

The lenses and backing are shipped with the bags, not the inserts. The inserts are necessary to hold them in place, however.

They got cheap. I bought mine in 2009 and they came with everything, lense covers, trim and backing. I saw a new set at the dealer and could not believe they sell them like that.

Do you happen to know if it's the same for BRP's Givi helmets? Seems to be, but don't know for sure.
I'm not certain. I purchased my Can-Am bags new from my BRP dealer. They were missing one lens and both side panel tupperware insert replacements (with holes for mounting). When I told my dealer, he tried his best for weeks to get the missing parts from BRP with absolutely no luck. At first I didn't believe him so I called BRP directly. I was told straight out that BRP does not provide or sell replacement parts for their accessories. I still have a hard time believing it because you can get most any other part for a Spyder from them. But in the end I had to get the missing lens directly from Givi. I never did get the replacement side panels and had to make a set myself.
