There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Questions for all

I am really considering buying the 2010 Spyder RS in a month or so. I have been reading posts on this board and wanted to ask a few questions:

Will 2 helmets fit in the "trunk" part in the front?
Regarding security - do you ever feel weird about just parking and leaving your Spyder outside when you might be at a restaurant? friends house? work? etc.?
I am 6'4", I have seen things on here about raised handlebar kits, thoughts on that?

thanks!:2excited:

questions

I have a 2008 sm5, 2 helmets fit in my trunk along with my hinged alpine stereo deck, if this helps. think the trunks are all the same size.

I'm 6'4" with an '09 SM5 - IMO:

a 4" riser (1+3 or straight 4") is a must. Road pegs of some type is a must. A sway bar is a big ++.

I also needed a different seat (have a Corbin) and windshield (have a Madstad 22"). The latter two are owner dependent - you may be happy with stock, or something else entirely.

I have a ton of mods on my RS, but if I were starting over, I would opt for the entry level RT & go from there. The ergos are better out of the box.

First of all welcome Yes i'am not affraid to leave my bike at a restaurant you could always turn and lock the bars to make it difficult? 2. Locks are for honest people if thieves want somthing bad enough they will get it. 3. yes i can get 2 helmets in my frunk. 4. I have the ESI 4" handle bar risers and they are great but sometimes i do wish they came back more you are taller so they maybe ok for you? Goodluck to you.

I'm a ways from 6'4" but the 4" handlebar risers will be a good start. If that isn't enough there are seats that set you back a little as well.

As for parking the Spyder in public places, the only problem I've had is getting through the crowd that gathers around it when I get ready to leave! :D

welcome

I am no where near 6' tall, so I am just using the 1" BRP riser and am perfectly fine with that.

Make sure you are ready for rock star status, and gatherings around you at every stop. You may not want it, but it will happen. :D

welcome
We wear full face helmets and only 1 will fit in the front trunk (frunk) . . . so we had to buy a second Spyder....

So far as risers, we put the KewlMetal risers on the RS because they are SOOOOO adjustable for a shorty like me as well as my tall hubby.

Corbin seat, yes, an absolute must!

Locking the front forks is always a great idea. There are also security systems available..... I'm still looking for one that announces in a stern voice "PLEASE STEP AWAY FROM THE SPYDER"

Also, a good cover. We haven't been able to find a portable cover that small enough to tuck in when we're on the road, so we use a twin size fitted sheet .... it's washable and fits perfectly over the mirrors and rear tail lights.

Congrads on making the decision . . . be sure to post pics when you get your new Spyder! :2thumbs:

1 full-face and 1 3/4 will fit, but as mentioned before, two full-face will not fit in the trunk.

The bars/risers and a new windshield will probably be your first changes for comfort reasons. Beyond that there will be things you'd like to do, but the first two are almost a must to be comfortable while riding. Good luck, and hope to see you on a spyder soon!

I have gotten a little more comfortable about leaving it in parking lots, but I still worry more than I do with my truck. However, I pay my insurance premiums for a reason. If anything happens, I guess I'll look at the 2011 model.

welcomeOur '08 SM5 will hold 1 full face helmet Shoei and one jacket up front. If you carry rain gear not so many extras. I have a cable lock that we usually use to secure both helmets on the back Corbin saddle and use the frunk for our jackets as we always have our mesh on in the summer months.
I have the Kewl Metal center console with 5 inch bars that work well for me. Kewl Metal also has 7" & 9" bars as well as an adjustable riser option to use with their console or stock bars. Check them out from the home page ad.:doorag:

You cannot fit two helmets in the trunk. I put a pager alarm on my bike, and it works great so I have no problem leaving it parked in places. At work everyone knows whose it is so I don't worry there anyway.

I am short, but the risers are nice!

our sponsors.

As far as additions to your spyder, we have a bunch of good sponsors on our website. I'd try to use them whenever possible. Congrats on your ride.

welcome I have a 2010 RS-S that I got early june.I am 6ft2 and installed a 3inch bar riser from spydercity and bars feel great. As far as parking the spyder I lost the handlebar lock when I installed the riser. There is always crowd around bike so I really never worry about theft of the bike but I plan on locking the rear wheel with a cable lock when parked somewhere unfamiliar.

From another guy that is 6'4", I found that the ESI handlebar risers were a great upgrade for my steering comfort and a Russell "Day Long" saddle upgrade was a HUGE improvement over the stock seat. Plus I was able to get the rider's seat built just a little longer than stock so I can sit back farther. Since then, I've seen the Kontour seat and I might have tried that one if I knew of it when I got the Russell. I've tried about 4 - 5 different windshields and I'm most happy with a Madstad RoboBracket windshield but I still switch it out sometimes and ride with the stock shield. I had the ESI highway peg brackets but found that I didn't need them and I have ridden many 400 - 1000 mile days without any highway pegs. My comfort mods in order of benefit for long distance (over 150 miles) riding were :
1) new seat
2) windshield upgrade
3) handlebar risers

For short distance (under 150 miles) riding, the order would be :
1) windshield upgrade
2) handlebar risers
3) new seat

Regarding parking it out in public, I live near and work in one of the higher crime cities of the US (Flint, MI) and I haven't had any problems with people messing with my Spyder. Of course, being I know the area, I don't tempt fate by going to someplace in the questionable areas during the bad times (usually after dark but some places I wouldn't Spyder to even in the daylight).

As far as putting two helmets in the trunk, I haven't been able to put two full face helmets in the trunk but a combination of full, half or 3/4 helmets would probably fit in there. Definitely two half helmets fit in the trunk.
