• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I have a couple of questions about trailering a spyder. I have been looking at a few different trailers and think I have decided on a feather light E72x10. I asked the dealership what wheel chock they would recommend for a spyder and was told that I should not use a wheel chock with a spyder that I should use the rail and corner tie downs as the spyders front wheels don't fit a chock well us this true. Looking for a set up so I can tow from Massachusetts to Mo so we can bring the spyder to spyderfeast this yr. and and all help greatly appreciated.

I towed mine on a open landscape trailer from Chivago dealership where I bought it to Akron Ohio. I used ratchet straps and checked them 3 times on the way home. Stayed nice and tight and the Spyder didn't move an inch.

The procedure as outlined in your owner's manual is very effective and worked well for me. Later, I changed to the Super Clamp system which I find to be easier to use.
 
Tie downs

Three tie downs, as outlined in manual. I use a piece of towel through each rim as a protectant between strap and rim. Also make sure you aren't tightening down over the valve stem. I've trailered this way for a thousand mile trip with no issues. Just check as you would any other load your hauling. :thumbup:

Yes; your owner's manual has a very complete description of how they think that you should tie-down your Spyder...
But I like my way better! :D
Up Front:
Don't go through the wheels: wrap your strap around the lower a-arms, just outboard of the lower shock mount... I don't like using the wheels, because you've got wheel bearings that are taking the load, and if things got ugly: you could destroy the wheels due to the side loads imposed upon them.
The A-arms are solidly supported fore and aft, and are even nicely supported by the upper A-arms...
Out Back:
Carefully feed the strap through the rear wheel (Being careful to not get caught up in the drive pulley on the left, and the brake caliper on the right!), and then tie-off to the rear corners of the trailer.

Of course: use the "BESTEST" straps that you can! :2thumbs:

Nobody has a better way......Nobody........and this way is even approved by the Lawyers who work for " U-Haul " ... So they don't get SUED........How's that that for a guarantee.........Put a heavy duty Nylon strap over the rear tire ( in-line w/the tire ) use a rachet to tighten it...( you must attach the front and rear hooks to the trailer floor ) .....Since the strap only contacts the tire ...nothing gets scratched, nothing can get bent yada, yada, yada, and it costs about $10.00 for one........takes me about 5 minutes to get this done......................I do put some 2x4 pieces alongside the front wheels to prevent sideways movement.........Mike :bbq:

+1 on the method mentioned in the above quote. Hauled from Nashville IL to North East Ohio and it didn't move an inch. Here are some pics of what it look like tied down this way.

The way Mike ( Blueknight911) described in the post # 6 works, because I can vouch for it. The spyder does not move. We towed ( on a snow mobile trailer) my 2012RTS-SE5 to Spyderfest in 2013.

Go to Deanna777 and look for the thread" EASYIEST, QUICKIEST, MOST SECURE, LEAST DAMGING, TIE DOWN........." You will fine more info on that thread on what mike(Blueknight911) is talking about. The first post on that thread has pictures. Deanna

Yes it stays put,,, without front straps.....While towing Dee's RT , I tore the trailer from the Toyt after hitting a metal pole.....Her Spyder never moved ........Then another time, I drove over an 8 inch high concrete ROAD DIVIDER and my Spyder in my truck also never moved.................I didn't plan to Torture test it - it just happened........:dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:.......And I didn't invent this method ....I copied it from " U-Haul "......This is how they instruct people who use their CAR DOLLIES to attach the front tires to the dollies and then tow the cars cross -country.......It's LAWYER APPROVED :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:..................Mike :bbq:...................PS, you can see mine at Spyderfest

Mike(blueknight911) said it all in post # 10 on this tread. My 2012RTS-SE5 spyder did not move on his trailer. I can vouch for it.

Let us know, and post pictures of your trailer project.

I think I'm gonna do what Mike And Deanna did....Can easily be done with some good D-rings bolted in the right places. Cheap, easy and damage free. A nice little trailer project to do ...;)
....:agree:....Especially the DAMAGE FREE part......The folks who claim Micro-fibre towels or any other super soft thing they put under the straps to PREVENT paint scratches have never examined the Paint Finishes on their own Cars....Even when Brand spanking new , after the FIRST wash and WAX there are MILLIONS of scratches on the paint....They call them " SWORL " marks .....but they are scratches......and this is from ONLY washing and waxing.. PS this is the way they do Primo Show cars that they don't even want Scratches on the FRAMES because they have the cars on Mirrors to show off the under-carriage................Mike :bbq:

How about wheel chocks like these? They are pictured reversed... the "rails" are to go inside the tires to guide the bike and restrict side to side motion. Looking at suggested tie-down methods for options.
