There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Polaris Slingshot in Texas

Now LEGAL! In June, a new law from the TX Legislature put in place a vehicle class called "autocycle" which means it has 3 wheels and you don't straddle a saddle and it has a steering wheel. At the same time, they came up with a 3 wheel only motorcycle endorsement for vehicles like a Spyder. These do require a test and license endorsement. Both the autocycle, motorcycle and trike have helmet requirements (I know we don't have to wear a helmet but minors do). These new laws open the door for Polaris Slingshot sales as well as Elio Motors sales if they ever get that company ramped up.

That's good news! I'm glad they at least require a test and endorsement. :yes:Too many states just let people hop on trikes with not one bit of motorcycle safety knowledge or training.

That is as bad as letting people get into an Rv that is 8' wide and over 40' long towing another vehicle without any kind of testing. They have driven a regular car all their lives, now they are going to drive a rig that could easily be longer than a tractor trailer.:yikes:

I believe the only other opposing state Connecticut also did the same. Slingshots are now in all states And other states will follow suit with the reclassification....

Be careful about mentioning the Slingshot on this forum.......

A thread was posted today about a Slingshot and a member here got really upset and started to call it a car multiple times trying to degrade the OP choice of motorcycles. The OP fired back about his lack of knowledge about the product and the member here started crying about personal attacks. I guess the member could dish it out, but had a rough time taking it back in return.

Another poster said this wasn't a slingshot forum ( as meaning you should not to say anything good about the product and he didn't belong here). The OP removed the thread which was sad........ :(

Can't we all get along ?????????????????

It sounds to me like Polaris spent some huge money around the country getting laws changed in their favor. Nevada previously classified a motorcycle as anything with a single drive wheel, thus the Spyder and Slingshot were both classified as motorcycles. Just last month the Nevada legislature changed the law and came up with a new classification "tri-mobile". Tri mobiles do not require a special license or the use of a helmet. I think this was a very bad move.

Yes very bad idea. I don't get it.

You pulled your own thread, Randy...
We are interested in developments in the three-wheeled motor vehicles markets.
What we're NOT interested in; is hearing about how superior your car is to our bikes. nojoke
If you give that line of :cus: a break; we'd love to hear about the Slingshot!

The term, "Deer Proof Motorcycle" comes to mind...
You also were rather quick to question how a Spyder would have reacted to that impact; as compared to the Polaris...
(please: post your video again!)
This is a Spyder Lovers forum for a reason. We enjoy OUR bikes. :2thumbs:
Very few folks have wasted time picking on the SlingShots, and we enjoy hearing about them...
But use some manners and tact! :D

Its not quite that bad with RVs. All 40 footers are well over the weight limit for a class c licence. (approx 26000 lbs give or take a few in various states). Also maximum length for a class c is 50 to 60ft overall.

On the other hand, very few citations are given unless there is an incident for failing to have the correct licence. Much like motorcycles, many folks ignore the licence law.

You can get up to about 38ft in a gas front engine motorhome and stay under the limit. All the large diesel pushers are over the limit for a class c as are most of the big toy hauler 5th wheels when connected to a one ton crew cab truck....

Head on deer collision on July 2nd Spyder ST Limited. Damaged YES but not broken. Rode it home 90 miles after the collision then 35 more miles to the dealer. This was a hard hit, It was a buck and the deer never took another step after the impact. My wife drug it off the road while I picked up parts.

Hi Bob,

Re: What we're NOT interested in; is . . .

We!!! As we used to say back in high school, 'You got a turd in your pocket?'

You ( and no one else here ) speaks for me.

I do take care of that all by myself.

Your point is well taken...
Although I would suspect that there's a lot of "we" in here that might agree with me. :D
It's your choice.

Have you started the repairs yet? :dontknow:

The slingshot will always be an in between kind of thing. Not quite a motorcycle, not quite a car and not all that good at impersonating either of them. It does car things better than most motorcycles. It does motorcycle things better than most cars.

Its not very good as a car (not all that fast, nor safe).
Its not very good as a motorcycle (you ride in it and use a steering wheel while sitting in what looks and feels like a cage.

I have said before I would like to rent one for a weekend to have fun with. But I do not want to own one. My Z06 is a much better sports car, and my F3 is a much better bike. The slingshot could not replace either of them.

IMHO of course and not speaking for anyone else.

I've got a dealer that's close enough to make me want to go try one out...
But :agree: it sure won't replace my bike! :2thumbs:
