• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Payments will be the biggest factor.

You are my Hero

I don't know how old you are. I am 70. I was doing long-distance bike riding, competitive sailing, 4- wheeling and canoeing up to age 65, till my body started liimiting what I can do.
I still work three days a week. I probably should have not bought a Spyder to be fiscally conservative, but the Spyder keeps me out of the recliner and on the go rather sitting around and listening to my arteries harden. My 2014 RT LTD keeps me up , interested, on the move and excited! I don't know how many months I have left to wait on a deal (a lot I hope), but I feel time is precious. One llfe is not enough. Good luck on your decision.

Ronbo

My brother and I just turned 65 and even though you are only a few years ahead of me........ You are my hero. See way too many folks like you described. Hear way to many comments from those folks telling me how dangerous it is to ride. Your comments really hit home. Ride safe my "older" riding friend. Also your feedback to the individual who originally posted this is right on!

I didn't see any mention of insurance ? Must be included in your calculation ! I am in the same boat . Brought a 2013 rt lt last year , had to adjust my budget for $1200 a year insurance .

Credit union for me

Have you tried looking at the Credit Unions, some may even give you a better interest rate that some of the banks

My credit union just gave me 2.5% on a 5 yr. With that interest rate (no loan fees) I can leave my other $ invested and make more than the 2.5%. I am in WA state as is my credit union but they have no problem with me dealing with an out of state dealer, Pitbull Powersports gave me the best deal...on my new '14 RTS+++++ (that would be the mod list :roflblack:)

So I agree credit unions seem to offer the best rate, call around. I called 4 different ones before I found this rate. I took it...

Insurance is dependent on so many factors, that a discussion amongst multiple folks in an open thread is useless...

ALL of the following may affect your premium
Location
Age
Gender
Marital Status
Years of experience
Driving and claims records
Credit reports
Exact model of bike
coverages selected
Safety course discounts (Or not!)
Specific Company discounts; such as
Homeownership
Claims-free Renewals
Storage location of the bike
It's best ot discuss this stuff with your Agent!
BEFORE you buy!!

FINANCING

I just ordered my 2014 today and I got a 1.9% interest rate which helps the payments. Could have gone 2.9 for 72 months but decided to go 60 months and 1.9%. Don't know if you got that good a deal but I'd check with Credit Unions to see what they offer.

QUOTE=den1953;750828]I just have been sitting around too much this winter, but I've been studying the 2014 RT with great interest, especially on this forum. I am on a fixed retirement pension and have to have monthly payments that don't break me. As much as I like the RT Limited, the $30,499 price tag puts it out of reach for me. The RT-S being at $28,049 for an electric shift SE6 might be stretching, but an SM6 might work at $26,499 and with my bike at max trade-in might get me a $250 a month payment for 5 years. A base model RT with SE6 comes in at $24,999 and doing the math comes in at around $230 a month. The SM6 base RT at $22,999 gets me around 215 a month. I have to kind of think ahead about what I can handle budget wise. I'm still sitting on that fence yet, but I am thinking this through first.[/QUOTE]

You mention retirement so I assume you are not a spring chicken.. My 2010 spyder was an sm5 and the pain in my fingers from arthritis made it terrible for me at times. my 2012 and 2014 are SEs and the change was wonderful.. think long and hard about your hands on cold days before going with the SM to save a few bucks

This is so true. I have a left hip that has a problem, therefore, when spending a day on my Harley that required a lot of shifting, my hip would be hurting badly by the end of the day. My two Spyders have been the Se-5 and now the Se-6 and it sure makes for a more comfortable day. I love the Se.

Have you done any shopping for insurance? Insurance is high here in Florida, and I paid only $333 per year on my 2013 RT-L with high liab. limits and $250 ded. on physical coverage from AARP with Foremost Ins. Co. Also, GEICO was only about $45 per year higher. I recommend that you check around as your insurance sounds high to me.

We pay Progressive just under 1k. Checked with Foremost by recomendation on this site and they were MUCH higher. Geico quoted a bit less than Progressive but I don't trust them within ten feet of my bike. They have a LONG history of bait and switch rates. IE suck you in with a low quote and then raise the rate due to an excuse 30 days after the policy starts and you have cancelled your prior policy and any renewal discounts you had. They did it to me TWICE....stupid me but they will never do it to me again.

I asked my State Farm agent too, all my other insurance is through them. She told me it would be higher than Progressive as SF does not really DO bike insurance. She was right, 300 a year higher even with the multi-line and multi vehicle discounts.

For my wife's Spyder,SF had the best price.

You would think having multi policies with a company would give a better rate.
We have our cars and house with AAA.
Got quotes for my bike and the Spyder and it was too high!
