There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Other GPS wiring options not going direct to battery & w/o splicing...

I am really getting anxious to get my GPS hooked up. And, one of the concerns (although not a big one) about going directly to the battery is that one time I might forget to manually turn the GPS off, and drain the battery.

So; what is the next best way without buying an additional powerbus? Is going directly to the fuse block a viable option? The headlights have also been mentioned. Can we gain easy access with panel removal, and not cut wires?

Going directly to the fuse box to the switched accessory fuse would be an option. You could locate the BRP wiring that is for their 12 volt outlet that is hooked up to the switched accessory fuse already and just tap into those wires. Heck, when I first got my GPS, before I had my powerbus which I connected it to, I bought a car cigarette lighter plug from Radio Shack, connected my GPS power wires to that, and plugged it into the BRP 12 volt outlet in my trunk. Yes I had 2 small wires coming out of my trunk and running up to the GPS on the handlebars but it worked for a temporary hookup.

I wouldn't worry about connecting directly to the battery and draining your battery down if the GPS is left on unless you leave the GPS on and don't run the Spyder for days or weeks. The small current draw shouldn't kill your battery in one night.

Finished! I wired it up this morning. And, I did wire directly to the battery, afterall. I soldered the wires to those round connectors. And, I removed the phillips head bolts of the battery terminals, and just placed them on terminals, and reinstalled the bolts. The Zumo came right on. Very cool!

Here are a few photos. I will also put the photos on the 'How to" Forum.

I had the dealership directly connect the zumo 550...when I bring the bike home, I don't forget to turn the unit off...

If I'm ever any place else, I take the zumo off as it'll get stolen.

I recommend you get the lock bolt from Garmin so that the brackets won't disappear...you never know...

Enjoy...the zumo rocks.

Make sure you get a scala rider 2 so that you can use your phone, listen to music, hear the gps, etc...

It was a really neat ride yesterday with the Zumo 450. Are you referring to this lock?

While the scala is nice, I enjoy mine very much, it won't do any good with the 450 which is what Greg installed. The 450 is not bluetooth.

He can always connect a wire from it to another device like he Chatterbox. That is how i plan on running my GPS when i get it if i even need the voice.

Thanks for the reply, just wish there was a wireless system that did it all! I hate to buy a system then have what I want become available soon after.

I don't know about the 550 but I have Garmin Nuvi 310 which is Bluetooth, but it only allows you to use a passcode of 1234 and my Cardo Scala Teamset uses 0000. So they won't talk to each. Think it pretty pathetic that you can't change the passcode on the Garmin. Not everything uses 1234.
The Cardo Scala Q2 is not stereo by the way.

The Scala pairs up just fine with the 550. I actually don't even mind the fact that the Scala isn't stereo when listening to mp3's through the 550. It's just nice to not be wired to anything.

what are you guys doing...taking the cig adaptor and cutting it off and running it directly to the battery or does the zumo come with the wiring. I have a cheap magellion and I just make sure it is charged up but wouldn't mind direct connect

The Zumo comes with plenty of wiring. And, the hot wire is fused. I ran it directly to the battery. And, I attached the ground to the negative post of the battery.
