Online DPS Petition...Interest?

I'd rather see that product fade away then claim lives, strand people or hurt them. Sorry, maybe you never had the cr@p scared out of you. Good on ya!:thumbup: But I'm not letting it lie - I own something that's gone WAY DOWN in value and I do not trust it - which is too bad because it is an excellent concept - i just want to ride it and trust it again. If they come out with an honest statement before riding season - I'll listen. I hope they do.

I did not mention anything about lives and not caring if it hurts someone so do not but words in my mouth. Just because I did not mention it does not mean I do not care and if you would ask before assuming that is why my wife will not ride it alone any longer. Sorry if I got upset but when someone says I do not care about lives gets to me because I have been beating the odds for a couple of years now.

...is that counting the guy whos bike caught on fire in the middle of the driveway then when questioned about it he revised his story then was questioned again and he magically left the boards by the way before that he only posted like 2 times...

He is a friend of mine who works two jobs and doesn't have a lot of extra time to post here. BRP is aware of his Spyder fire and his insurance company hauled it away to do their own investigation. No word yet on their investigation. As far as explaining his revised story, his son initially posted something that was not entirely correct. When he tried to correct it, he got pounced on by a few members of the forum so he quit posting.

My apologies for assuming. I took your post a different way. I don't blame your wife for not wanting to ride it alone. Farthest i'll go on my own is to work or Starbucks which is not far - a few miles - all back roads, no crazy speeds. Even with a group, I told HDX I will not go on anymore long trips or the highway until I hear an answer as to why it messed up in the first place and if the new DPS I got was the final fix. Just hope we get a final answer soon. It's been a long time coming.

Thank You, I feel for you and appreciatte your concern like my wife she is 100lbs max and we have never had the steering lock up but just wonder if she could over power it with out incident so instead she just does not ride. It is sad it is 10 months old with less than 1500 miles she is ready to sell it and almost took 8500 for it just not to look at it. Hopefully something will give soon and we all will know.

Yep, I'm about 115 lbs. I handled it when it happened but it scared me - just staring at a tree and guardrail and saying to myself COME ON COME ON straighten the F out! And it sort of "snapped" and it came loose. I didn't over steer though luckily - wasn't going that fast - between i'd say 35 and 45 mph but i see people talking about being on the highway with it happening. That freaks me out! Well for me it is freezing, snow it outside, too cold for me to ride so hopefully while i sit and wait for the birds to start chirpin and the snow to melt, i hope they come out with a fix /final answer in that time frame.

My opinion

Contact the attorney general and/or your senator/congressman if you have problems. I have done this in the past about a different problem and was amazed at how quickly I got my money back. A petition is a nice way to get things done, but the reality is that making it more public and putting political pressure on does more than any of us could. I haven't had the problem, but I see it come up over and over again on the site and I am worried about riding my Spyder and hope that before the riding season there is a fix, otherwise I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

We're all on the same page here...time to have BRP step up to the plate. We're not asking for anything more than their help in getting our bikes to work properly and safely. I feel for those who have had problems...must be very, very scary...and for those who haven't (like me), it's scary to think what could happen.

If they are working on something, they should let us all know...we all have the same bike and the same vested interest. When it comes to a faulty exhaust gasket, who cares...when it comes to an issue involving steering, the matter needs to be dealt with immediately.

For those who think that BRP cannot say anything due to fear of lawsuits...there can only be lawsuits when damages are sustained. The longer they wait, the more they risk more of us getting hurt or worse. They're better off from a legal standpoint to issue a letter, not unlike the original recall letter, to inform all owners of complaints and what they are looking into and the potential risks if there is a problem. They do not have to acknowledge guilt/doing anything wrong, etc... If they say that they have had complaints and are investigating, that would be the right thing to do...at least they go on record as working on the problem and this is a nice first step in the right direction. Maybe not all bikes are involved, but getting something out to all of us would be a very nice gesture...it should come from them directly to all of us...

I remember this but I think most people are having the problem with the above statement hopefully they will make another statement or update before this gets worse than the first time. The issue was if they know about it and are working on it, they are. It's taking longer than they thought but I can assure you that they have not spent one day that they weren't working on it. What they don't want is to put another "fix" out that comes back to bite them. From what I understand there will be a real "fix" soon but for whatever reason they have decided to wait till they are a 100% happy with it before they put anything out there.

Trust me, I want this to be gone as an issue as bad as anyone else. I put more miles on mine than most and I want this to be the last thing I think about when driving my Spyder. nojoke

Yes and what seems to make all this worse is that it seems allot of dealers just are not educated enough on the spyder and talk before they think. I am just tired of reading about the DPS and hope it ends soon or at least they make another statement before more gets started. Thanks for all you do and hopefully it will be over soon and we can read some posts that have nothing to do with DPS :clap:

Thanks for the link to the November post...I do question, however, and no disrespect is intended to you Lamont, why you and/or a few get this information when the rest of us don't. We all own the same bike and although you own/operate spyderlovers.com, which we all obviously love, you are not an employee of BRP, yet you are told/recommended/etc... to advise the rest of us on what is going behind closed doors at BRP. I cannot speak for others, but BRP should have a direct method of communicating with Spyder owners, especially the ones who have not had their bikes for some time due to problems and have very legitimate complaints. The onus should not fall on you to inform the rest of us what is going on...the responsibility lies with BRP.

No petition for me. There is enough fear and loathing right here on this forum, I don't see any need to go looking for more in the real world.

I had the "steering" problem. It was quickly and efficiently fixed. BRP contacted me BEFORE I contacted them and did all the right things as far as I am concerned.

If I gave some of the people here any credibility, when I first experienced the issue, I should have just torched the Spyder and walked home and some how given BRP dirty looks without even contacting them. Yeah, righteous drama really works.

It is a sorry thing to see so much ****:cus:**** going on, but it just the way some people are and I don't see it changing. I have never had a high opinion of people who cannot tell the difference from what they "KNOW" and what they feel, but still feel compelled lecture the rest of us on their delusions of grandeur as if it will some how make the world a better place. Yeah, that works every time.

Well, I have a life. I get a ton of enjoyment from riding. My Spyder delivers. BRP and my service shop delivered.

After reading a thread like this, I am reminded of why I ride solo and that makes me smile.

BRP should have a direct method of communicating with Spyder owners, especially the ones who have not had their bikes for some time due to problems and have very legitimate complaints. The onus should not fall on you to inform the rest of us what is going on...the responsibility lies with BRP.
