On Pins and Needles re' Water in my Oil

I sent in an oil sample a couple weeks ago, taken at 3000 miles, drawn out of the reserve tank while still hot, and the lab report says it has a dangerous amount of water in the oil.

If true, thats really bad news. I took a second sample, with a new syphon bulb...the red rubber type you get at auto stores...and sent it off last friday, hoping that somehow my first sample got contaminated.

Hopefully I'll know by the end of the week. Meanwhile, i'm going to change the oil later today after I run it enough to get hot.

When you drain out the old note the color of it and the texture. If it is milky brownish color I would venture to say you have a leak some where in the system.

question do you make a lot of very short trips with the machine?

check your oil closely when you change it. As stated above. Sampling the oil from the tank cold is not the best way. There may be condensation as well as the water in your oil will float to the top after sitting. This is one of the reasons we change our oil. You can get small amounts of fuel as well. Now time intervals on oil changes and oil blends make a difference as well. How much and how hot the engine gets also helps burn off the contaminents in your oil and filters are there to help as well. You have to abuse a motor to some degree to blow a head gasket etc and have water entering your oil..hope it's just a bad sample..!!

Got the second report back today, 1 Aug, and theres NO water in the oil and the viscosity is still good. Whew, thats a relief I can tell you! :bowdown: Apparently the syphon I had used for the first test was somehow contaminated; maybe I had used it at some point to put some anti-freeze in the bike but didn't remember.
