• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Oil pump failure?

I was having great weekend last weekend. I had fitted my new towbar and taken a borrowed trailer for a trial run. All went very well, the trailer has little effect on the handling and stays behind the Spyder as required.

On the way home I noticed a pulsing when I tried to accelerate through a corner. When looked down, the oil light was on! :yikes:

I pulled over when I could. On the way I noted that the pulsing was caused by the ECU cutting the sparks at about 4000 rpm. As I pulled up, I noticed that the engine was squeaking, once per rev.:pray:

I pulled the left middle cover and undid the dipstick, expecting to see no oil. Instead, oil came frothing out of the tank.:hun: Is there really enough oil in the system to completely fill that tank?

I got towed to my dealer who was perplexed. He'd never seen the oil tank full. He checked codes and found low oil pressure and bad shifts. He's checking with BRP before tackling it.

So I'm looking for causes. Maybe there was a blockage in the tank outlet. I guess the oil pump or the drive to the oil pump could have failed.

Any other ideas?:dontknow:

Cheers;

Wouldn't be a blocked tank outlet (return). It could be a blocked pump inlet or a plugged screen at the tank. More likely a bad oil supply pump. There has been at least one other oil pump failure, and Dltang's crankcase was scored at the oil pump rotor, necessitating replacement. Sorry for your bad luck. Unusual failure for a Spyder, but anything made by man can fail.
